chicagodri (473), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 12, 2008 Pours dark brown with a thin off white head. Nice roast flavor. Heavy malt and some dark fruit. Very drinkable brown though, well done.
CaryTheDude (174), Ripon, Wisconsin, USA Aug 29, 2008 Hell, I guess you can always count on Dogfish Head to create the extreme version of any brew. This brown has body, color, a nice bouquet, and the flavor packs a punch. I’ll always have a soft spot for Newcastle, but this is tops among browns. JCB (1001), Durham, North Carolina, USA Aug 27, 2008 12oz bottle shared by my pal John. Thanks! This style is really starting to grow on me, I must say. A well hopped brown ale, with a handsome body, decent frothy head. The malts aren’t actually especially sweet to me – but they’re also not just there for body and texture. Nice mild roasted notes compliment the hops, and the overall mouthfeel is somewhat creamy, creating a nice balance. PaulHegedus (43), Brampton, Ontario, Canada Aug 26, 2008 Bottle, Aug. 2008. Aroma of coffee through the roasted malt, molasses. The flavour had a lot of coffee, espresso, dark roasted flavours, more than I expected. Also chocolate, raisins, dark sugars. kitschy (128), Nebraska, USA Aug 25, 2008 In bottle. Dark brown clear beer with bubbles and a dark beige head. Aroma is sweet and smells like melted dark chocolate. Flavor is immediate and unfolds, including roasted, spicy, chocolate, hoppy, hazelnut and caramel. Very smooth and delicious! Sledge Jr (2713), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Aug 25, 2008 In bottle from Trader Joe’s Foggy Bottom. Dark brown cola appearance, with tan head that dissipates. Palate is very smooth. Smells like a chocolate malted, tastes rich, roasted, and hoppy. Additional flavors include chocolate, nutty, and perhaps maple syrup. A complex beer. Not your usual brown.
