Commercial Description:
Inspired by a tale of a cask doctor who brought sluggish ales back to life by suspending a fig in them. Brewed from 100% Maris Otter pale ale malt, a blend of fine hops and conditioned on dates and figs. User Instructions: open bottle, pour contents into two snifters. Enjoy. ALTERNATIVELY: Walk hand-in-neck with bottle into the middle of the woods. Use shovel to dig 2x2 hole three feet deep. Seal bottle in plastic bag. Place in hole and pack with dirt. Memorize location and leave. Return exactly one year later. Dig up bottle, open and enjoy.

Shared this with CBlado. Pours a cloudy, honey amber with a thin head. Hoppy, floral scent. Being my first barley wine, I didn’t know what to expect. First taste is a blend of choice hops, then you begin to taste and feel the subtle alcohol. End notes are warming and not bitter. One to enjoy on a damp, cold night. Thanks CB!

Bottle shared by lithy. Poured brown with an off-white head that settle to a ring. Nice fruit aroma of raisins and cherry with a light alcohol backing. The flavor found a great mix of cherries, raisins, and prunes. Alcohol is well hidden in the flavor compared to the aroma. Medium to full body and warming. Nice!

Simple tasting with allot of alcohol shining through in the finish. Still suprisingly drinkable for the ABV and even though I’m lacking flavour overall theres still nothing that annoys me when drinking it. Really basic flavour profile though and aging is required to say the least.

Bottle. Sampled most recently at Tria Fermentation School, 3/10/09. Pours reddish amber, capped with a small white head. Aroma of toffee, citrus, and alcohol. Flavor is sweet overall, with caramel and notes of dates and other dark fruit; some citric hops enter the fray towards the finish. Nice barleywine; does not seem 15%

Strong malty flavor with pronounced bitters, smell and appearance of red wine. Headless. I prefer Thomas Hardy.

Pours with a two-finger, bubbly cream head that fades quickly and leaves some lace. Pale, cloudy amber color, ton of yeast left in bottle. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Nose is sweet malt and alcohol. Flavor is raisins and alcohol, finishes smooth and sweet NOT a session beer . . . savor this beer. This is one of the best barley wines brewed in the States. $16.49 for a 4-pak of 12oz bottles from Colonial Spirits Acton, MA

Pours clear redish-copper with a thin white head. Aroma is sweet and boozy with hints of dates, plum, apricot, cinnamon, caramel and banana. Flavor is an explosion hops and malt with overtones of sweet fruit. Not bad.
