Aroma is quite sweet with notes of fruit, alcohol, and shoe polish resin. The flavor initially reminds me of church communion wine, sort of sweet, but sort of sour at the same time. There are notes of grape, raisin, and even citrus in the background. The 15% alcohol is very noticeable in this one. I think I’ll store a few bottles from the 4 pack for a year or two and see what happens. cgras13 (2), Elkhart, Indiana, USA does not count | 1.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 1/10 | 1/5 | 2/20 | Jan 13, 2009
From Bottle
Very sour and undrinkable, but alchohol is very evident. Must have been mishandled somewhere along the line. bleeng (600), Spring near Beersel, Texas, USA

Nose is very alcoholic, hot, and a bit spicy.Tastes comes off sweet and sticky but definitely very hot alcoholy which detracts from the nice flavors hidden away. This is a young beer which needs to be aged. Promising for a nightcapper Xmas 2009. drfabulous (1280), Columbia, Missouri, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 12, 2009 Looks good, a nice barleywine color. Maybe a bit lighter than I’d like, but plenty red to make up for it. Smells slightly boozy, leathery, and a bit sweet.Tastes of dark fruits, some cherry, a bit of leather, some alcohol (although not as much as I suspected).Mouthfeel is good- a bit thin. Slightly acidic (maybe the alcohol?) and a perfect amount of carbonation.I would drink this beer all night. Well, until I passed out. But it is a bit of a sipper.
Overall, I’m very pleased. I’m going to buy a bunch of this and hide it form myself to see how it does with a bit of time. bigbuildinze (5), Porter, Indiana, USA does not count | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jan 9, 2009 Sharing a bottle now with my wife as the snows roll in over Lake Michigan. The flavor really grows on you as the palate thickens and declares itself over time. I haven’t had too many barleywines so I am just taking it all in here- and I do realize this is not any average barleywine. Distinctive spicy, sweet, booze taste. I get the essence of fine gin and tonic and even cocaine in this brew. It’s complex and getting more delicious as I drink it, which is probably dangerous with the 15%! | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 9, 2009 Been sitting on this for a while, the date on the bottle is 10/16/06. Pours a clear light copper/red. The aroma is sweet, candied caramel apples, raisins, dates, plums figs smells wonderful. The head is fully diminishing, with no lacing. The flavor is bitter, a little acidic, grapes, raisin, like a sweet port wine. The body is full with a little alcohol in the stomach a nice warming feeling. BuckeyeSammy (456), Cleveland, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 9, 2009 Full palate.. as in full of garbage. No, that was harsh, the full flavored cream/ sweet malt presence to balance the 15%. Some funk in the nose, also a sweet profile. Definitely can tastes the sweet dates and figs.
