Commercial Description:
Inspired by a tale of a cask doctor who brought sluggish ales back to life by suspending a fig in them. Brewed from 100% Maris Otter pale ale malt, a blend of fine hops and conditioned on dates and figs. User Instructions: open bottle, pour contents into two snifters. Enjoy. ALTERNATIVELY: Walk hand-in-neck with bottle into the middle of the woods. Use shovel to dig 2x2 hole three feet deep. Seal bottle in plastic bag. Place in hole and pack with dirt. Memorize location and leave. Return exactly one year later. Dig up bottle, open and enjoy.

Poured from 12oz bottle into snifter. Brownish red in color with a thin offwhite head. Aroma of Alcohol, maple syrup, brown suger, and dark fruits. Flavor is sweet malt, brown suger, syrup and finishes with a warm alcohol burn that lingers for a while. High abv is causing me to feel buzzed half way thru. This is a nice break from the big high hopped BW’s.Very enjoyable.

Bottle at Magic_dave6’s disco dance tasting. Orange red, thin white film. Nose is antiseptic, white sprit. Some hop. Mouth is sweet, alcoholic, sweet malty hop, harsh and warming. Coating and a nice fruity goodness. Good, but not a return visit due.

12 oz bottle via Mys Swap 3.0 (thanks to whoever sent this!). Is a ahzy copper in color with a small beige head. Nose is dirty socks and is phenolic. Tastes like a typical high abv barleywine and has a boozy woodsy finish. Not as sweet as you would expect from DFH. Body is medium/full, carbonation is just right. An average barleywine..i was expecting much more from these guys as they rarely disappoint..but this one is nowhere near their usual standard.

Bottle. Heavy malt aromas of roasted and caramel, moderate aromas of perfume and lemon for the hops and dough and leather for the yeast, with a strong smell of dates, and sherry, brown sugar, alcohol and a faint spice like nutmeg. Head is creamy, off white with good lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is slightly hazy tannish red. Flavor is moderately sweet and lightly acidic to start and finishes moderately sweet, lightly acidic and bitter, and just a touch salty. Palate is full, syrupy and chewy with a soft carbonation. It finishes moderately alcoholic. A bold beer in every facet, and an assault on the senses, much better than their Immortale.

Dark amber color. Very little head with a heavy pour. Micrfoam barely covers the surface. Nice aroma with a hint of smoke and a bit too much alcohol in the aroma. Drinking fresh, so maybe the nose will tone down over time. Lots of throat warming burn when tasted. Sweet heavy body with brown sugar notes. Some buttery aroma of carmelization. Nice, but drinkability is reduced with alcohol.

Cloudy amber pour, thin head with small bubbles. Malty alcoholic aroma; you can smell the figs! Overly sweet syrupy initial taste smooths out wonderfully as it lingers; tastes of fruit, caramel, figs, malt, and light hops at the end. Nice carbonation and medium mouthfeel.

Bottle. Slightly hazy rich orange amber with a light tan head. Rich malty, slight alcohol aroma. Caramel, alcohol, dark fruit, citrus flavor with decent bitterness. Alchol definitely present. Medium bodied. Lingering caramel, slight dark malt, and fruit.

Pours dark amber with a thin off white head. aroma is dried fruit, caramel, and a bit of hops. Flavor is raisin, fig, grapes, sherry, caramel, hops. Slight alcohol burn when cool, but warmed up nicely (strange). I wrote this beer of as being too boozy but having it sit out for an hour or so did wonders. Very sticky mouthfeel, coated my tongue. Interesting, wouldn’t mind trying one a few years down the road.
