Commercial Description:
Inspired by a tale of a cask doctor who brought sluggish ales back to life by suspending a fig in them. Brewed from 100% Maris Otter pale ale malt, a blend of fine hops and conditioned on dates and figs. User Instructions: open bottle, pour contents into two snifters. Enjoy. ALTERNATIVELY: Walk hand-in-neck with bottle into the middle of the woods. Use shovel to dig 2x2 hole three feet deep. Seal bottle in plastic bag. Place in hole and pack with dirt. Memorize location and leave. Return exactly one year later. Dig up bottle, open and enjoy.

Sweet nose with burnt sugar and molasses, maybe some cinnamon. Color is dark pumpkin orange with dead tan head, gone quickly. Taste follows nose and is sweet, but alcohol and hops save from being too sweet. Alcohol also saves palate from smothering texture.

Poured a golden orange with a thin off-white cap. The nose was of molasses, caramel, dark fruits and a hint of alcohol. The taste starts out rich and sweet with a blend of molasses, candi sugar, plum, raisin with a rising citrusy bitterness pushing it’s way into the middle. The end had a long smooth warming, boozy burn. Mouthfeel is full, thick and syrupy. This is a good sipping barleywine that hides its 15%ABV well. I don’t think I could have more than one in a session, but I will definitely search this one out again.

A Mes rate: Bottle at Tom’s UGT Pt. 2.
Bright amber with a thin off white head. Aroma of paint stripper and hops. Barley sugar and more paint stripper in the flavour. Rich, thick and just a little too much. Out of balance and no finesse. Far from their best. Maybe we should have burried it and had it next year...

bottle vintage ’04 smells honey balls, and ethanol, tastes slightly thin because of 120 minute that was just before this. tastes loads of honey, nearly mead-like, well balanced, slightly sweet. like a more subtle version of the 120 minute. alcohol, hops sneak up you.

Appearance: Pours a clearish, dark amber body with a medium-sized, short-lived, ivory-colored head. Smell: Dusty dry malts with some candy syrup hints and notes of dried apricots and figs. Waft of booze. Taste: More of a sugary candy taste than maltiness. Stray pinch of cinnamon. The special conditioning does bring a juicy fruitiness. All that harsh alcohol looming over the flavor. Hot, sugary finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Slightly sticky mouthfeel. Drinkability: No thanks. Perhaps this one does temper a bit after being BURIED ALIVE, but as it stands now I just didn’t care for it.

Very slight haze showing ruby copper color with a grainy khaki colored, medium sized head. A toffee and molasses scent with lingering malted maple aroma. Full bodied and lower carbonation. Dark fruit flavors and aromatic spice with some cask bitterness. A soft, almost creamy, mouthfeel that finishes heavy and sweet. The alcohol leaves a warming sensation in the throat.

*hated it! would never drink again* aroma: smells like dip! medicine! band aids! booze! and acetone! .. a headache. app: brown tan, normal.. flavor: AH! the pain, the gross gross pain! this a sip of hell. it has odd fruit flavors, bad booze, chemicals abound. this is misguided, unbalanced and mean. palate: if it matter.. to thin and bubbly for a bw. OA: this is over the top. i would rather sip a good whiskey. strange out of place fruit, bad candy malts, harsh and is going to be dumped in my sink. i love a good BW, this is NOT one.

Poured from 12oz bottle into snifter. Brownish red in color with a thin offwhite head. Aroma of Alcohol, maple syrup, brown suger, and dark fruits. Flavor is sweet malt, brown suger, syrup and finishes with a warm alcohol burn that lingers for a while. High abv is causing me to feel buzzed half way thru. This is a nice break from the big high hopped BW’s.Very enjoyable.
