Commercial Description:
Inspired by a tale of a cask doctor who brought sluggish ales back to life by suspending a fig in them. Brewed from 100% Maris Otter pale ale malt, a blend of fine hops and conditioned on dates and figs. User Instructions: open bottle, pour contents into two snifters. Enjoy. ALTERNATIVELY: Walk hand-in-neck with bottle into the middle of the woods. Use shovel to dig 2x2 hole three feet deep. Seal bottle in plastic bag. Place in hole and pack with dirt. Memorize location and leave. Return exactly one year later. Dig up bottle, open and enjoy.

Poured from a 12oz bottle (bottled on 10/17/07) and served in a snifter. This barley wine poured a bright, hazy, red-hued amber with a thin, lasting beige head. Some slick lacing slowly skidded down the sides of the glass, back into the drink. The aroma of the beer was made up of sweet fruit preserves, candi sugar, caramel, honey, vanilla/oak, and also sweet alcoholic notes. The flavor consisted of apricots, caramel, vanilla, honey, and a heavily warming alcoholic finish. The mouthfeel was full-bodied and syrupy with moderate carbonation. A really well made and quite different barley wine. While this was tasty at this point in time, I would think that this beer would greatly benefit from a few more months of age.

From a bottle. Pours a dark hazy amber. Chocolate, honey, vanilla, and some candied fruits. Very sweet taste. Hints of sweet candied fruit, oak, and sweet malts. Pretty thick. Good brew from DFH

12 fl. oz. bottle, thanks to my son Steinar. Orange to amber coloured beer, clear first, hazy when the sediment is poured in the end. Big off-white head with an orangey hue. Strong aroma of malts with vinous notes, oak, alcohol and molasses. The flavour is intensely sweet and alcoholic, notes of oak and figs, with a certain peppery and hoppy bite which nearly disappears behind the alcoholic sweetness. You don’t expect a 15% beer to be "easy drinking", and this one certainly isn’t. Too sweet for me, still quite impressive. Would probably improve by aging.

12oz bottle brought to the MN RB wither gathering by lawstudent09 with the intentions of getting brewfiend schnockered. At 15% it wouldn’t take much. This beer is heavy, thick and loaded with sweetness. Aroma of sticky sweet malt, caramel and sweet grain. Pours thick, bright goldSticky candy sweetness. Sugar cane syrup. Honey. chewy. Finishes quite hot and sweet.

350 ml bottle from archerliqours. Hazy golden brown with no head. Sweet molasses, caramel, vanilla, and alcohol aroma. Taste similar to aroma, and at 15% ABV, the alcohol is reasonably well hidden. Quite good.

2007, will re rate the bottle buried in my back yard next year. Pours deep copper with a small tight off white head. Thick sweet malty aroma with some pronounced alcohol power. The aroma alone tells you to beware and sip. Taste is thick and sweet, but the hops are just as big as the malt and balance it out nicely. Reminds me of a EKU 28, but not as thick and cloying. Goes down smooth with just a minimal hop bitterness and just a touch of thick malt in the back of the throat. Really nice.

Nice amber with thin, but creamy head Malted scents begin the journey and move to chocolate honey sweetness and dusty piney vanilla notes. A slightly viscous oily body typical of the style. The alcohol, which is abundant, is not readily detectable and evidenced most prominantly in the warming effect post sip. Quite nice.
