Commercial Description:
Inspired by a tale of a cask doctor who brought sluggish ales back to life by suspending a fig in them. Brewed from 100% Maris Otter pale ale malt, a blend of fine hops and conditioned on dates and figs. User Instructions: open bottle, pour contents into two snifters. Enjoy. ALTERNATIVELY: Walk hand-in-neck with bottle into the middle of the woods. Use shovel to dig 2x2 hole three feet deep. Seal bottle in plastic bag. Place in hole and pack with dirt. Memorize location and leave. Return exactly one year later. Dig up bottle, open and enjoy.

Pours a hazy, coppery-amber color with a yellowish, fairly small, pillowy head; mostly diminishing and leaving sticky lace. Nose is sweet and potent with some hop presence; notes of candied apricots, maple, brown sugar, caramelized raisins, light vanilla, and spicy alcohol. Flavor is equally as sweet and warm with more fruit and the dates and figs making a presence; notes of peaches, light dates, figs, maple, and corn syrup. Palate is medium, lightly syrupy, and soft to lively and dare is say, warm. Finishes with some citrus hops, finally, but still the low bitterness is masked by the warmth and the intense sweetness of the corn syrup, maple, and caramelized pomme fruits lingering. It is a nice, bold, over-the-top, sweet-bomb with plenty of complexities but it could certainly benefit from some aging. A good, malt-forward, high ABV BW, but the true character of this one won’t be known without some time in the cellar.

Bottle, #335 Brown pour with a decent head. Aroma of alcohol and dark fruits. Flavor of fruits follows. Great brew, but not the best barley wine.

12 ounce bottle from BeerandBlues2
Pours hazy copper with a foamy tan head.
Big fruity nose. Lots of berries and plenty of alcohol.
There’s a lot of alcohol burn here, but the fruit, bready malt, and hops fight through nicely.
Heavy palate. Sweet. High Carbonation.
A man’s beer.

Bottle from 2004, thanks to kramer17801. Pours a slightly hazy orange color with a small off-white head. Malty dark fruit aroma with some hints of alcohol. Sweet warming malty dark fruit flavor with some hints of alcohol. Sweet warming dark fruit finish.

Light amber pour with a very thin off white head. Dark fruits on the nose but much lighter in taste. Alcohol is noticable.

12 ounce bottle in Duvel glass. Beautiful clear reddish copper with ring head. Aroma of alcohol, cherries, brown sugar, nail polish remover, varnish. Strangely mild flavor, fruity peachy, sugary, with some alcohol astringency. Extreme alcohol warmth. There a small part of the flavor that is enjoyable, hidden behind the alcohol and furniture polish. Full body and low carbonation. Impressive, but I want to drink a beer, not stand in awe of it.

From bottle : Poured an interesting Triaminic orange with a small white head. I can taste the alcohol in this one. Very sweet and syrupy. Not too interested in this one.

From bottle : Pours a slightly hazy apricot color with a small white head. Nose is very sweet fruits and alcohol. Taste is strong. Very sweet, with fruits, with emphasis on lemons it seems, and there is some serious alcohol. Palate is oily and has a serioous warm burn on the way down. Medium bodied, pretty good for a barley wine.
