Commercial Description:
Inspired by a tale of a cask doctor who brought sluggish ales back to life by suspending a fig in them. Brewed from 100% Maris Otter pale ale malt, a blend of fine hops and conditioned on dates and figs. User Instructions: open bottle, pour contents into two snifters. Enjoy. ALTERNATIVELY: Walk hand-in-neck with bottle into the middle of the woods. Use shovel to dig 2x2 hole three feet deep. Seal bottle in plastic bag. Place in hole and pack with dirt. Memorize location and leave. Return exactly one year later. Dig up bottle, open and enjoy.

Pours a nice red, almost with a pink tinge, with a thin head that dissapates quickly. The aroma is great... yeast and alcohol mix with raspberries and cherries, but not in a lambic kind of way. Really awesome aroma. Funny, as I tasted it, I had forgotten that it was a Dogfish Head and thought that it tasted like Dogfish Head’s raspberry beer. I wish I knew what they use to make their beers so distintictive. Is it the yeast? The body is a little watery for my taste, but it’s not dry or anything like that. Kind of rough. I don’t know if age would help it. Probably just needs more body. Not a bad beer. Worth it just for the aroma.

Wow. This was awesome! I like my beer strong and I like my beer to finish strong and this beer delivered in both categories! It acts almost like a delicious sipping wine with a sweet finish. There was a VERY faint astringent quality on the sides of the tongue that other people had noted but that is such a minor complaint that it is easily made up for with the smooth feel on the tongue and sweet alcohol flavor. I will be buying more - don’t know if it’ll make it a year if I know where I burried them!

12 ounces. Clear pale amber colour with a great white head. Weak aroma of malt, sweetness and alcohol, also hints of fresh fuit. Very sweet malty flavour with a little hints of sugar and some wine-like. Ends up very alcoholic.

2007. intense alcohol on the nose like fingernail polish remover. hazy amber and a thin head. tastes like a junior 120. dark soft velvety caramel with a fresh pulled taffy finish. After only a few months, became sweet and perfumey in the nose with notes of candied orange, intoxicating and intriguing. stepped up in appearance as well, with a well rounded orange amber color and a dense creamy white head. I have to say that I do not notice any of the alcohol anymore, all I taste is dense oranged sweetness, full and heavy. My chest warms quickly like I’ve sipped some brandy. This is yummy and I know I’ll be finishing the glass much too quickly.

Murky, muddy brown color. Thick off white head. Aromas is all dried fuits and alcohol with a hint of earth and nuttiness. Apricot, raisins, figs, and dates. Medium to full bodied. Dont get me wrong, I appreciate the 15% abv. But its a little much for this style. Keeps it from being a classic.

Bottled in 2007. Aroma is dominated by alcohol but a light amount of malts are noticeable. Hazy light amber color with a small tan head. Flavor is smooth at first then develops a sweet alcohol bitterness in the finish a slight amount of hops are also noticeable. Creamy palate. Aging the other three.

Pours a gorgeous red color with a finger of off-white head. Really fruity nose: cherry, tangerine, date, fig, apricot, rounded by a kind of buttery maltiness. Flavor is both sweet and tangy, with citrus and cherry played up and a bit of bitterness balanced by pale malt. Medium consistency, which is good because I’d expect something this sweet and flavorful to be cloying. Very enjoyable... this will get better with age.

decent to put it lightly, this is a powerful beer, not only because of the alcohol but the overall flavor and texture. It is a very warm beer, has a sort of tang and afterbite. Sip this one slowly and it can be enjoyed. DFH has a consistency with their brews, all being explosive in individual style. This is a great version of barley style wine but has maybe 4 or 5% too much ABV.
