Commercial Description:
Inspired by a tale of a cask doctor who brought sluggish ales back to life by suspending a fig in them. Brewed from 100% Maris Otter pale ale malt, a blend of fine hops and conditioned on dates and figs. User Instructions: open bottle, pour contents into two snifters. Enjoy. ALTERNATIVELY: Walk hand-in-neck with bottle into the middle of the woods. Use shovel to dig 2x2 hole three feet deep. Seal bottle in plastic bag. Place in hole and pack with dirt. Memorize location and leave. Return exactly one year later. Dig up bottle, open and enjoy.

Bottled on 10-16-06. Notes from 1-20-07. You can taste the alcohol. Very sweet caramel malt flavor, very bitter too. The hops are all in the bitterness, there is not much for the hop flavor.

bottle. tiny, off-white, fizzy head into semi-sprkling, cloudy, brownish-orange body. aroma of light honey, dark fruit, caramel, some vinousness (overall lighter aroma than expected). Flavor is lightly acetic, with sweetness throughout. average carbonation. long finish duration. definitely one of those that improves with a bit of warming.

2 yr old bottle. Smelled quite a bit more in the way of dark fruit/figs and cherries. Alcohol is much more covered when compared to fresh bottles. The taste is fruity and toffee with a tangy, cherry-like texture. I think this beer has finally peaked. 7/10/07 9 month old bottle. Mostly clear orange color with a small head. Aroma of sweet caramel and toffee. Still quite warm! Taste some cherries and toffee. Hugely alcoholic finish. I’ll have to re-rate this after another year, or so. 7/3/7/3/14

Between 2-4 years old. 12oz bottle. Served in a chalice @ 64°. Aroma is white grapes, honey, alcohol, muted citrus, spice, wood? Smells good. Color is reddish copper with a very short lived head only brought on by a rough pour. Really coats the glass. Initial taste is honey, caramel, malt & orange marmalade followed by a rush of alcohol and dark fruits. There is a touch of nose burn at the end brought on by the alcohol, maybe due to the temp. Body is massive. This is a huge, nearly over the top beer and I like it’s unabashed nature. Makes a fine nightcap.

Fruity sweet aroma. Fruit in the flavour with a brown sugary-caramel flavour. Didn’t really get any alcohol out of it, surprisingly. Not very complex, but the age may have done that to it.

bottle. Ok I didn’t age it. I think that may have concealed some of the alchohol more but .......... hey this is still quite enjoyable. Sweet spice flavors like a gingerbread cookie with hops that are tastey enough to make it worthwhile and a kick that will say .......where am I ?

Sour fruit aroma. Flavor has fruit, and brown sugar. I have tasted a lot of sweet barleywines like this lately. It could use more complexity, but is good. Nice palate that hides the high abv in the flavor, aroma, and palate.

RBSG07. From 75 cL bottle. Pours hazy orange. Aroma is clear raisins. Very sweet flavour of raisins, alcohol shines through. Finish is sweetish and strong. Very enjoyable for sipping.
