Commercial Description:
Inspired by a tale of a cask doctor who brought sluggish ales back to life by suspending a fig in them. Brewed from 100% Maris Otter pale ale malt, a blend of fine hops and conditioned on dates and figs. User Instructions: open bottle, pour contents into two snifters. Enjoy. ALTERNATIVELY: Walk hand-in-neck with bottle into the middle of the woods. Use shovel to dig 2x2 hole three feet deep. Seal bottle in plastic bag. Place in hole and pack with dirt. Memorize location and leave. Return exactly one year later. Dig up bottle, open and enjoy.

On tap @ Dogfish brewpub in Rehoboth, DE. Maybe it’s just me, and it very well could be because I don’t know s**t about Barleywines, but this stuff was not good at all. Tasted like a shot of vodka. I know it’s 15% but I thought I was drinking 80 proof. First and foremost was the alcohol taste and smell....and then there was not much else. Maybe I wrecked my pallate from several previous Randalized 90 minutes. Sad to say that i’m not at all impressed with this one.

Golden Orange with a small off white head. Aromas of sweet fruits and light alcohol. I nice mix of hops and malt make the 15% alcohol unnoticeabl. Drank along with Victory’s Old Horizontal. A great Barley Wine.

I strongly dislike sweetness in brew and this is sweeter than most BW but the stunningly good flavor won me over-- way over. As good as any BW I’ve had yet and unique in the complex fruitiness. I never ever thought I would like pineapple in brew. Tobacco, dates, plums, raisins ... and 15% does not overwhelm.

12 oz bottle. Poured a clear copper-orange color. Head was off white with good retention and lacing. Smells of grape candy, white wine, and a touch of malty molasses. Extremely vinous and less malty than other barley wines I’ve had. This is a barley WINE, not a BARLEY wine. Medium bodied with flavors of dried fruits, pineapple, and noble hops. A real kick in the rear (in a good way).

Poured clear copper with thin white ring of foam. Big dark fruit aroma of dates, plums and raisins that smack you in the face. Behind the fruit is a sizable alcohol aroma. The flavor is oddly similar to the aroma with big plum, date, raisin and pepper notes just out shining the hot alcohol taste. The alcohol influence has eased a bit over the last couple of months. Another six to ten months may be when it starts to peek. I look forward to trying this again next year.

[180-20070105] 12floz. Smells like sweet boozy sour cherries. Cloudy, orange brown body with no bubbles and a small quick head. Sweet, lightly fruity flavour with typical dry finish. Medium-full body. Togetherness comes about.

Pours a medium orange with a medium white head. Thick sticky lacing. Very nice aroma of ripe fermented fruits. Pineapple, light malts. Flavor is rummy fruits, malts, caramel, and rich hops. I thought the alc was well hidden. Thick and rich mouthfeel. Very impressive.
