BeerGestapo (320), Windsor, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 1, 2008 (USA) Courtesy of AFI96, thanks Waylo. Pours a nice amber color with a sm-foamy head. Aroma of vanilla, raisins, malts, and bourbon. The taste is of pineneedles, malts, dark fruit, and alcohol. The mouthfeel is robust with a mild (15%) alcohol burn. Overall a nice barleywine, get some. afireinside96 (427), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 31, 2008 12oz bottle served in a snifter. Looks like a summer sunrise, orange-amber with a glimmer of gold showing through, topped by a small off-white head. Smells of lemon, toffee, vanilla, pine. Tastes much like it smells with the addition of a woody ester. Very chewy mouthfeel and very warming. Alcohol is present but not intrusive. Another winner from DFH. zappafan99 (319), Rock Hill, South Carolina, USA Aug 30, 2008 Taste 8/30 Bottle (?date) Looks: Copper body, no head. Aroma: Malt, must, leather, dark fruit, biscuit. Bottle was aged one year after purchase. Pours a orange-brown color with thin tan head. Still, some lacing on the glass. Aroma is bourbon (heavy phenol), fig, ripe dark fruit sweet pineapple. Flavor is ripe dark fruit, sweet pungent caramel barley, ripe white grapes and strong phenol notes. Generally medium to full bodied with a lingering alcohol finish. BeerBunker (46), Burbank, Illinois, USA Aug 23, 2008 Pours a dark rcopper color with a beige head that disspears immediately. Aroma is overpowering alcohol. If you get past the alcohol, it also smells strongly of fruits and sugars. Taste is a bitter and delicious alcohol punch in the face. Once you get used to the strong alcohol, tastes of of fruit comes through. Kind of like a carbonated, alcoholic piece of fruit. Finish is all alcohol.
