Commercial Description:
Big Brown Ale aged on palo santo wood from Paraguay. This beer is a 12% abv, highly roasty, and malty brown ale aged on the wood of the Palo Santo tree from Paraguay. Palo Santo means "holy tree" and it's wood has been used in South American wine-making communities. We were lucky enough to get our hands on 20 blocks of the super-dense wood and the wood was added to the ageing tank after fermentation.

Bottle. Was very disappointed in this beer. First beer from dfh that was not enjoyable. Couldn’t even finish this six pack.

Bottle. This is a very dark brown colour with a big thick light brown head. The aroma is earthy, peaty with anise seed, clove. Very inviting! The mouthfeel is thick, smooth, a bit sticky on the tongue. The flavour is full of wood, oak with old style black licorice, molasses, a hint of dark candy sugar, some dark berries, green hops, alcohol. The alcohol really overwhelms the rest of the flavour, which is unfortunate considering how unique and complex this beer is.

The head is gorgeous, bubbles and roils just above the surface, you can watch the ale just form. Tastes like bourbon, sweet malty, alcoholic bourbon. Definetly a strong brown flavor, tons of roasted notes, takes you for a trip.

This one came across as just too....sticky too big, maybe too sugary. Gonna be on tap this weekend near me, so I’m going to try and give it another go around, but it just felt too big and malty and sweet for my palate.

Deep black with a thick mocha head. Good retention. Aroma is chocolate, sugar, vanilla, wood, alcohol, roasted malt and hazelnuts. Flavor is very similar with a healty dose of hops. Full body. Very well done!

Bottle Pours a deep black with a decent light brown head. The heade seems to last well. Produces some real excellent lacing. Has a great aroma of chocolate, roast, and alcohol. Has a good carbonation. And a swell mouthfeel. The flavor is good. Has an alcohol bite but it is good. Looks like a stout but the flavors a sweet and smooth. Has a thick texture and a full body. This one hits you in the lungs with the burn, I love that. Great finish and the aftertaste may be with me for a week. This beer flat out rocks.

Probably the best dogfish that I have had. Overall I am pretty disappinted with this brews that his one is strong and ful of really good malts. Mild mild in hops but very strong malts. Pours very dark brown, cant see through it. Thin lacey head. A very nice roasted aroma and taste.
