Commercial Description:
Big Brown Ale aged on palo santo wood from Paraguay. This beer is a 12% abv, highly roasty, and malty brown ale aged on the wood of the Palo Santo tree from Paraguay. Palo Santo means "holy tree" and it's wood has been used in South American wine-making communities. We were lucky enough to get our hands on 20 blocks of the super-dense wood and the wood was added to the ageing tank after fermentation.

Bottle. Small fizzy light brown head that mostly diminished, splotchy lacing, opaque, some carbonation on the sides of the glass, and a dark brown hue. The nose was vanilla, caramel, wood, some chocolate, some roastiness, and hint of raisins. The flavor was roasty, caramel, sweet, malt, wood, hint of vanlla, chocolate, and finishes dry. Smooth, dry mouthfeel and medium in body. A nicely done ASA, the ABV was well masked, a delight to drink, a beer to drink slowly and enjoy the wonderful nose and flavor. Worthy of a try if it comes your way and one that I will have again should it come my way. Hats off to the folks at DFH and thanks for brewing this one!!

Rich malt with vanilla, caramel, dark fruit, coffee, light smoke and brown sugar. Perfect body; doesn’t come across and too thick and carries the 12% quite well. Pretty darn good...

The aroma is a sweet malty, toasty with hints of raisin, caramel, molasses and other flavors I can’t define. It pours almost black with a nice brown head that is mostly diminishing. I hold the glass to the light and you can not see through the glass. The initial flavor is bitter, sweet, finishes with a smokey taste and is wonderful. The body is medium to full, the texture dry and creamy, the carbonation soft.

Bottle 12 oz. Pours a very dark brown with a miniscule brown head, no doubt from the high ABV. Nose is a sweet malt with some toasty biscuit and chocolate notes. The taste is very powerful and up front with malt, caramel, and chocolate. The beer slides over the tounge and almost has a coating feel to it on the palate. A very good imperial brown ale, but not for the faint of heart.

Pours and looks like chocolate syrup. Milk chocolate head. Aroma is malty with high alcohol content. Very chewy, molasses and roasted espresso. Unique cherry cola taste.

In a random visit, shopping for wine (I know I know, forgive me) at Total Wine, I stumbled upon the last 4-pack of this viscous beauty and thanked my Maker for this discovery. Pours a syrupy-looking, thick brownish-raven color with a couple centimeters of cappucino-colored head that stays firm and inviting. Aromas of dark fruits and subtle cocao. Flavors are warm and wintery with hues of chocolate, toffee, vanilla, molasses, soy sauce, and rain-soaked firewood. An almost cloying mouthfeel; an enveloping texture that smooths out in future sips. Slightly astringent and sticky on the lips. This a complex and dark brew, to say the least.
