On tap at the Bavarian Lodge. Though spiced ales are often hit or miss for me, I had decently high hopes for this one. It turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. There’s lots of spice on the nose. Nutmeg, cinnamon sugar, and brown sugar are quite big. Otherwise, it smells quite strong like vegetable juice with a bit of pumpkin. The color is fairly cool because it reminds me of pumpkin pie, with some creamy head and good lacing. The feel of this beer was quite a bit lighter than expected as well as the flavors. Spice dominate the flavor profile just a bit too much with pumpkin and other mellow fruits there as well. This one would be better served with more prominent brown ale qualities with the pumpkin and spice taking on a supporting role. This really wasn’t bad overall, but just didn’t work exactly for me.

This is an okay beer. It tastes quite scotchy, and has a bit of a weird alcoholic flavour to it. Quite spicy, in a way I’d enjoy it with pie or something but not so much on its own. I see the appeal, but it’s a beer I’d split rather than drink all to myself. The spices build to unpleasant levels quite quickly. Still, pretty good beer.

12oz bottle from my np10 partner. Can’t believe I haven’t rated this yet so here goes... Pours a reddish caramel brown with a thin wispy ligh beige head... Aroma of pumpkin and very light from a spice perspective...Flavors are of sweet and caramely pumpkin. Not too spiced up like some other pumpkin ales. Earthy from a consistency standpoint and sweeter through the middle and finish. Not much bitterness at all to this one.

Very spicy nose with some pumpkin aroma. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. Taste of pumpkin and sweet malt is present but not overly so. Nicely balanced.

Bottle. Pretty amber orange color with lace. Spicy, sweet, pumpkin aroma. Huge spices, a bit over the top. Yet the flavor is much more subdued and elegant, a big surprise after the big aroma. Ok pumpkin, nice spices, good alcohol and fruit, with a bit of acid. Very well balanced.

A nice copper color and a wonderful sugary sweet aroma: hints of nutmeg, cinnamin, and molasses. The taste however was a little bit thin given the big aroma and on the palette it was very ho-hum. Overall a decently tasty and seasonal beer.

Smell the cinnamon and spice but just beyond that there is a hint of wheat. They cover it well with this one and I am very impressed. Love the taste. Love the quick cinamon, nutmeg, pumpkin and gone taste. Taste like grandma’s pumpkin pie. Wonderful. Wonderful. Wonderful.
