I know I’ve had this maybe two years back in a bottle.. but when skimming through my DFH ratings I noticed this was missing. Resampled 7/21/2009 - Draft @ RnH. Musky and brown sugar notes. Nose is similar. Medium body and a bit maple syrupy. Alcohol is very well hidden.

Bottle. Pours a transparent amber with perhaps a hint of purple. A tiny bit of rasins in the aroma, but not much. No head. Taste is a strong alcohol flavor and not much else. I was honestly not a fan of this brew. But given it’s high ratings, I’ll have to try it again later and perhaps re-rate it.

Deep ruddy color, medium body, spicy and mineral flavors over...raisin; finishes a lot like Westmalle dubbel.

Pours a clear red/brown/ molasses. Well carbonated leaving a 3 finger brown head still wet. Very creamy! While the alcohol and subsequent heat are noticeable, it is nicely blalanced by the sugars... the raisins are obvious. Soft bitters, biscuits, malts... a very well balanced beer!

Bottled... almost no head, thin and tan. Beautiful, dark red/brown color. caramel taste...The smell reflects the taste. very sweet, very malty with obvious notes of raisin (even though i know that is not what the word in the beers name means). aroma is earthy and yeast heavy. well hidden bitterness... excellent finish. feels full on the tongue!

On tap at RNH (NYC): Pours a deep ruby, smells similar to cherry cough syrup. Taste is smooth- but the sweetness of the apparent raisins take over any "beer" characteristics. I can’t get over that cough syrup, lingering flavor, but at least it goes down smoothly.

On Tap at Maggio’s. Pours a very warm but light brown. Unlike what others have said, I could smell the sweetness and raison right away. Taste is a warming raison, almost dessert like. Sweet and I could definitely taste the alcohol in the finish. Very good beer, although not one for a session.
