Aromas of sweet fruit - grape, raisins (now I get the name). Taste was a bit sweet as well, with the fruits strongest up front along with some licorice and a red wine - merlot? - like flavor. Smooth mouthfeel. little carbonation, and the sweetness lingered in the end. Not great, but it’s still good to finally get some beers from this brewery. Woodsman52 (23), , Ohio, USA

I didn’t get the raisins till after half way through my glass. I suspect the temp plays a huge role in this. Next time, I will definitely wait 5 minutes after removing from the fridge before I take my first sip. MesandSim (5941), London, Greater London, England

A caramel dominated brew with a heavy sweetness. Thick chewy malt with some spirit like notes. Quite a lot of alcohol, clear raisins and a long fruity alcohol finish. Really enjoyable. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 9, 2008 50th rating, yeehaa!! A nice color of red mahogany stain, aromas of dark fruits like prune, plums, raisin, sweet malts and some clove, and banana, complex flavors of caramel, clove, pepper, dark fruits and doughy yeast that tends to dominate at times... near the end of the glass, I start to get the green raisins, the sort of young tartness, and some baked sweetend plantains Palate is complete; creamy, effervescent, oily and sticky. Good beer overall. beerchugger (307), Colorado, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 9, 2008 This beer pours a nice deep amber color. THe aroma is sweet and contains a nice head. The flavor is a little complex with it tasting rather sweet throught and the raisins coming in nicely in the end. Another fine brew from the Dogfish Head Brewery. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 9, 2008 Updated: Sep 7, 200812oz bottle shared with Matt7215 and his brother, Matt’s bottle (thanks Matt). Pours a nice ambery purplish with a small tan had. Aroma is kind of interesting, green raisins (forgot those existed, thanks for reminding me Dogfish Head Raison D’Etre!), not a whole lot else, no yeast, little malts, but still enticing. Flavour, to be honest, was a little one-dimensional. Fruity with the raisins, nicely sweet toffee from the malts, with somewhat of a bite to it from the carbonation and the hops. Also tastes like just actual brown sugar. Complex as a red wine? Hmm, I don’t know, maybe with age. Enjoyable and decent enough, but it really didn’t blow me away. KawaBomber (213), New Jersey, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 4, 2008 12oz Bottle: Deep amber w/ hints of garnet & a small light tan head. The aroma is filled w/ candy sugar. Also a bit of alcohol & oddly the raisin does come through in the aroma, but mostly sugar. Flavor has a great roasted malt character, coffee. There is a little kick of sweet before the roast hits. A ton of sweetness in the finish & that is where the raisin finally boldly presents itself. The sweet finish lasts for quite some time & the alcohol is very well hidden. Insanely good beer, but also very sweet. Don’t think I could handle more than one .
