Tones of brown sugar, barley, and malt on the nose with tawny port-like notes and minimal but present yeast. A little more bready on the palate and a little more plum/raisin notes in addition to the malt and brown sugar. Relatively thin on the palate, but this is a fine dessert beer. sja14 (106), Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 22, 2008 Interesting beer. not something you would want to drink on a hot day because it is rather hearty. the raisiny sweetness is present in this "winey" beer. a little too sweet for my liking a but innovative effort. robinvboyer (1429), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 22, 2008 dark brown pour, good beige head. Nice malty dark fruit aromas, lots of plums and raisins. Flavour is quite malty, with more dark fruit, i was expecting more larger yeasty notes, and maybe some bready malts, but alas, none. NOt bad, but i didnt really dig this. gwelch925 (31), Taylor Mill, Kentucky, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 1/5 | 15/20 | Jun 22, 2008 Like all Dogfish Head beers it features a strong blend of malts that tend to dominate the flavor and aroma. Raison D Etre includes a bit of sweetness and dried fruit. Dark brown in color with a small white head. Rciesla (3645), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Jun 18, 2008 Slight brown sugar and raisins, hint of molasses. Minimal head, dark reddish brown color. Molasses brown sugar sweetness, some stale prunes notes, good bitterness balance. Medium carbonation, medium bodies, light chocolaty brown sugar finish. Interesting, but not fantastic. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 17, 2008 Bottle: Sweetness is bold and upfront. Dark and well textured. Heavy on the fruit-plum, raisin, and thick molasses flavour. I had a whole sixer and it was too much for me. A bottle is great for a night of tasting. hoplover (166), Corpus Christi, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 11, 2008 This is a very complex beer. Very malty and fruit like. The raisins shine thru everything else. It pours a dark dark brown color with a dark caramel head that sticks around till your ready to retire. I taste raisins, caramel, alcohol, and something else. The only thing round with this great off-centered beer is the alcohol sting. It’s a little harsh on my palate, but hay, it’s still on of the greatest dessert beers Iv’e had.
