12 oz bottle from SoLan. Pours a roan brown color with amber highlights. The head is small, beige and dissipates fast. The aroma is moderate in strength with sweet roasted malts and nuts. The flavor is big and overtly sweet with raisins, dates and figs. The mouthfeel is silky smooth with lively with prickly carbonation. The finish is medium in duration with lingering dark fruits and just a touch of distracting alcohol showing through. Overall: A very enjoyable brew, but with Belgian strong ales the bar is set very high.

12 oz bottle. Rich mahogany brown with a small but persistent head. Interesting aroma of caramel, some spice, and something else. Kinda cooked . . . something. Pie crust, maybe. Smooth, very smooth. Sweet malt and, I guess, raisins dominate the taste. Alcohol is very well hidden. Good, but a little sweet.

On tap at the gaithersburg brewpub. Pours a deep ruby red, small white head. Incredibly rich flavor, complex of malts, dark fruits, caramel and yeast. Nice and layered with a yeasty, sweet finish. A unique brew

Dark brown beer with off-white head. Light carbonation for the style. Has a rather mild aroma with only some chocolate and dark fruits. Taste is primarily powdered cocoa. Couldn’t really taste the raisins. A bit too much dark malt for my taste. Finishes too sweet.

Just realized I have not rated this beer even though I have had it a number of times. Smell is malty with dried fruit and taste is sweet and powerful. I tastes prunes, raisins, honey, syrup, candy sugar...a pretty nice beer. Meant to drink nice and slow.

bottle. nice subtle aroma with coffee beans, vinilla, and bread. Darker brown color with some reddish hints, small creamy head, no real lacing seen. slighlty fruity taste to start (maybe thats the raisons?), rich coffee, mocha, finish is fairly thick and long lasting, no real hop taste is evident. complex in a subtle way, not overpowering, pretty satisfying.
