Pours a reddish brown. Has a distinct raisin flavor. Complex flavor with toffee and sugar. Sweet and malty. Has the acidity of grape skins. Heavy body that is almost chewable. This is a hybrid beer that just works well.

This beer is a beautiful ruby red but the small and disappearing head loses a point. The aroma is of roast malt, some chocolate. Also dark fruits, some dried fruit but not particularly raisiny. The taste is very malty, a bit sweet and caramely but with some burnt notes as well. A bit of hop bitterness, and some belgian spice. I do like this beer, but it’s a bit like a mediocre barley wine. Good malt character to it, but not as complex as I would hope.

Bottle...Pours amber with sediment and haze. Virtually no head. Dried fruit caramel nose. Lots of caramel in the first taste. Sweet grape/raisin in the middle. Rounded bitter hop finish. Hides alcohol superbly. Nice beer from one of the better brewerys

Copper to brown in color with very little head. Aromas of toffee, raisins, chocolate, malt, spice and a slight woodsy element. In the mouth the beer had a sweet and soft midpalate that made it very drinkable with similar flavors from the nose. Based on the nose I thought this may be heavier in the mouth. While I would generally prefer the weight, this one was well-balanced the way it is and just "fit".

Sweet and floral aroma. Smokey, fruity flavors (probably the reason for the raison name}, but very complex.

Very dissapionting. Really expected more from this in the flavor catagory. Tasted like a run of the mill American strong ale.

Pours a very clear brown. Aroma is sweet, floral and fruity grape. Flavor is sweet and chewy with some plum like flavors. Interesting notes of Belgian like flavors, but tough to pin down. Very complex.
