Aroma of malts and raisins, with some roastiness in there too. Flavor is similar, and quite sweet. Much more enjoyable than it’s brother beer, Raison D Extra. epf33 (222), Fairfax, Virginia, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 12, 2008 Poured a 12oz. brown bottle born on 1/4/08 into a pint glass.
Beautiful clear light mahogany, as advertised. It looked like an extended brew iced tea with a tan head.
Malty sweetness dominates the nose, what little there is. No alcohol or hops to speak of. The malt reminds me of maple syrup.
Yeasty malt flavor fades to a raisin sweetness with a slightly astringent back drop. This beer could use a lot more balance.
It makes up points in texture, a smooth ale with mild carbonation.
Worth a try as it is a Dogfish Head, but I probably won’t buy another sixer. It went well with my blackened chicken. roy7t (3), Connecticut, USA does not count | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 10, 2008 The raison seemed a little odd to me when I first heard about it. The raisiney, fruity taste is subtle enough to compliment the maltiness. This is a wine-lover’s beer. DandyWolfFloyd (331), Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 9, 2008 Updated: Aug 11, 2008I tried this some time ago, and thought poorly of it then, but now, my opinion has changed. It’s aroma is filled with malts, dark malts, and an assortment of dark fruit, presumably sultanas or some other rich raisin, and interestingly some tobacco notes, with coffee. It’s apperance was a brown color, with a light off-white color. It’s flavor is winey, raisiney, and a huge amount of malts, the dark fruit, really asserts itself, maybe too much, but this is more of a refined brew. It’s palate isn’t bitter. It’s rather like a strong Grappa from San Marino. It’s not for sessions, but Dogfish does not go mild either. bma4573 (136), Mechanicsville, Maryland, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Mar 9, 2008 Pours a thin brown, color with a slight white head and strong coffee roasted aroma, much like a porter or stout. tasting much the same with hints of raisins. Very different but good beer. Ansset13 (127), Wilmington, North Carolina, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 7, 2008 The pour is brown, with hints of red undertones, with small whit head that rapidly goes. The nose is roasted malts, chocolate making it very similar to a stout in scent. The flavor is Much lighter than the nose and this is where the belgian sugars become present; and the nose characters come into the beer. A typical Dogfish beer, in that it pushes the limits to where no other brewer will go.
