I was kind of surprised that this was made with raisins, yet I could not taste or smell raisins, go figure. As it is, I liked the smoky taste of this beer, and it was surprisingly smooth.

Pours deep brown/red with a fine, white head. Flavor is rather smoky, oddly enough. Moderate mouth feel. Pleasant.

Smells of sweet malt and yeast with just a touch of alcohol and raisin. Pours a deep nut brown with a small tan head that vanished quickly. Tastes of malt with caramel and fruit tones, finishing with a sweet raisin flavor. The alcohol is detectable but not in a displeasing way. Little carbonation. This is a heavy beer and would go well with meaty foods.

12 Oz Bottle. Pours a dark (and suprisingly clean) dark mahogony color with a thin and quickly vanishing white head. Classic yeasty Belgian aroma. Notes of carmely malts, dried fruit, wine, alcohol and even a little must also present. Mouthfeel is enjoyable: average carbonation and a medium body, but with enough texture on the tongue to keep things interesting. Flavor, much as the nose, is very Beglian. However, a little more malted carmel and less yeasty notes. The alcohol and dried fruit taste is also present and quite nice, brings a nice complexity to the beer. Somewhat delayed but strong bitter end. All in all, a very tasty beer that spices us the Beglian style. Could easily stand up to some heavy food. DFH strikes again.

Bottle pours a dark amber color with a light tan head. Head retention is medium with no lacing in the glass. Has a nice malt taste with a raisiny like fruit finish. Easy to drink and very tasty.

12 oz bottle. Deep amber, almost mahogany like, with a big white head. A lot of sweet caramellized sugar aromas. Very raisiney flavors. Its sweet. Cannot drink a lot, but it is good.

Clear ruby with very fine white....oh, it’s gone...head. Smells Belgian caramel-y! Yum! Dark fruit in aroma too. This is my favorite combination of scents. Warms your mouth and throat leaving a cherry taste somewhere in the back of your mouth. It has a nice sweetness to it that is pleasant. Nice medium carbonation level and medium body. Pretty complex and enjoyable. It leaves you with a nice toasty, subtle bitter end.

If I don’t want to pony up the dough for a real Belgian, this is my staple. Pours a dark amber with a off-white head that goes away fairly quickly. Flavor is excellent and is slightly more hoppy than most Belgian Strong Ales.
