| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 25, 2008 Dark brown with red highlights. Nice aroma, first sip is sugar, wow very sweet. Nice amount of hops but can’t match the overall sweetness. If this is a Belgian strong ale, I will avoid this type in the future. A smooth, tasty brew that could easily substitute for a dessert. Glass has become sticky from the sugars in the beer. Recommended for folks that like the sweet, dark, wine-like ales. kflorence (93), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Feb 23, 2008 Pours a deep, reddish brown color with a bit of head. Tastes and smells of malts, yeast, fruits and a bit of wine (from the raisins). It’s a pretty sweet beer on the palate, although the aftertaste is bitter. The raisins give this an interesting flavor, almost a mixture between wine and beer, makes for an interesting Belgian strong ale. Not really my style, but it’s complex and well made. ontheroad (25), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 23, 2008 Nice reddish-amber color and an aroma of spice. The flavor is nutty and sweet with a lot of alcohol in the aftertaste. A solid brew, but not really special. CP (124), USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 20, 2008 Like a mix of Dogfish heads indian brown ale and a sottish ale. The raisin flavor is apparent in the aftertaste. A pretty good beer but I feel the chicory stout is better. I usually don’t like Belgian strong ales much but this was drinkable and pretty good. goldbrew (99), USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 17, 2008 Another very malty offering from Dogfish. The green raisin aroma is evident after the pour. Fast head. Robust mahogany wood color. A drink that likes to stick to the inside of your cheeks and tongue. Hint of caramelized figs or prunes. Solid enough and a good beer, but in the realm of strong ales, it’s not so enticing that it begs for another bottle. RomanW70 (297), Providence, Rhode Island, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 16, 2008 Pours reddish brown with a light head. Wondeful aroma of toffee and raisins. Well balanced, and smooth fr4om start to bitter finish. Very reminiscent of the Indian Brown Ale, but with dark fruit accents. Yummy. mgoy (343), Oak Brook, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 13, 2008 Updated: Mar 1, 2008With a very appealing red color, fantastic taste and average aroma, Dogfish Head Raison D Etre is a great Strong Ale.
This full bodied very sweet tasting beer was a pleasure to drink. Essence of butter, caramel and raisin are perfectly complimented by a slightly bitter aftertaste.
This is one of my favorites!
