Ansset13 (120), Wilmington, North Carolina, USA Mar 7, 2008 The pour is brown, with hints of red undertones, with small whit head that rapidly goes. The nose is roasted malts, chocolate making it very similar to a stout in scent. The flavor is Much lighter than the nose and this is where the belgian sugars become present; and the nose characters come into the beer. A typical Dogfish beer, in that it pushes the limits to where no other brewer will go.
greenhorn1 (357), Eugene, Oregon, USA Jul 15, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a clear mahogany with a creamy, medium carbonation. Aroma and flavor is of sweet maltiness, raisins, brown sugar. I like the candied sugars and the sweetness it brings, but not overpowering. Complex and a medium mouthfeel. Alcohol is undetectable. Great beer. MuttyD (38), Cambridge, USA Jul 15, 2008 Caramel and brown sugar aroma. Caramel, raisins, burnt sugar, and cookie flavor. Finish is alcoholic and strong. However, alcohol is balanced by overall sweetness. carruthm (306), USA Jul 13, 2008 siena/amber colored, clear with a thin coating of a head that has some clinginess to it.
whiskyish aroma with dark dark fruits and caramel toffee aspects
taste: caramelly/toffee/malts, raisins Pawola22 (31), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Jul 12, 2008 12 oz bottle from Jewel.
Aroma: Malty, caramel, sweet, raisons (I would hope), slight coffee roast.
Appearance: Deep oak, brown, mahogany. Darker, but clear with no cloudiness or haze. Very small white head that leaves quickly, but remains lacy.
Flavor: Malty, candy sugar, caramel, almost a little bubble gum to it. Definitely sweet and a little bit of fruit.
Palate: Very smooth and creamy. Not overpowering at all. Sweet all the way down with a slight bitter and roasty aftertaste.
Overall: Very, very impressed. Not watered down at all. Balance is perfect. A great beer at dinner and a great session beer. Hides the 8% extremely well. ndfreak77 (70), USA Jul 9, 2008 I really enjolyed this brew but after drinking just two it really worked up the system. Great flavor. I would like to try from a tap.
