I was scared of trying any beer that said it was brewed with raisins. Boy I was surprised. This is a complex mohogany ale. Want something different? This is a masterpeice! badwhale (65), Bitterville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 29, 2009 Different. Average fizzy head with spare lacing. Cloudy body and light particles. A reddish brown color. Tastes of molasses and coffee. Light hops flavors. Obviously some raisin flavors and maybe dome dates. Medium body with soft carbonation. weitz15 (83), West Lafayette, Indiana, USA

I know raisins are marketed with this beer, but I don’t taste it. Near-full body with a less than remarkable hoppy finish. Somewhat roasty/malty taste. Above average brew. ttutony (105), Texas, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Dec 19, 2009 Poured a dark mahogony, clear. Thin whispy head. Subtle malt aroma. Sweet tasting, a little sour, didn’t detect beets or raisons. Light bodied, crisp finish. I’d call this a bier de garde, just ok. Fred82 (405), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 7, 2009 12oz bottle from Winooski. Pours deep mahogany with a medium off white head. Nose is yeasty, fruity and nutty. Hints of spices and malt. Taste is yeasty, fruity and malty. A bit sweet but not too much. Some spices. Finish is a bit sweet and a tiny bit bitter. Quite drinkable. Almost no trace of alcohol. Well made, sessionnable, nice example of the style (from what I can tell). I would have to drink this side by side with a Rochefort or something... I’ve been away from Belgian Strong for too long to compare. Really tasty and fruity. A treat really !
