Ungstrup (11075), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 20, 2004 A hazy amber beer with no head. The aroma is of alcohol and honey, like a mead, with hints of roasted malt. The flavor is also dominated by alcohol and with notes of prunes, leading to a dry finish. The alcohol warms Your body, but burns Your throat on the way. omhper (10438), Stockholm, Sweden Feb 6, 2006 Bottled.Thick copper red appearance. Raisiny port aroma. Extrenely sweet and malty with concentrated and complex flavours such as orange, muscat and liqueur. Somewhat sticky finish. Despite it’s sweetness I very much enjoy it, thanks to the sheer amount of flavours it contains. Papsoe (9999), Frederiksberg, Denmark Dec 23, 2006 (Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of acertain. Slightly hazy amber golden with a small, off-white head. Fat aroma of caramel, overripe fruit and alcohol. A bit low in carbonation. Very full-bodied, extremely sweet caramel and flavours of overripe fruit. Pretty much no bitterness. Not bad as such but simply way too much and almost cloyingly sweet. This could pass for a desert wine. 191206 Oakes (6853), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Mar 16, 2002 Dark amber, kind of murky, as barley wines tend to be a lot of the time; aroma of demerara, alcohol, abundant malt, raisins, currants...the texture is silky, winey, wildly bizarre. The brandyish tones of ’Etre’ are still here, as are a few of the other key components of that brew, but weighed down a little by all of the malt. I was not overwhelmed by the alcohol, but some of you who complain about Unibroue or Dubuisson products tasting too alcoholic will definitely be taken aback. The depth of malts undermines the good things that ’Etre’ does with its weird ingredients, and the ’Etre’ components undermine the malty goodness that WWS (and presumably this beer as well were they unencumbered) flaunts. Good, warming, fireside beer, yes, but not a DFH masterwork. yespr (6259), Copenhagen O, Denmark May 29, 2007 CBF07 sample from bottle. Pours amber and clear. Aroma is malty wineous and sweet. Flavour is raisins, malt and sugar. Finish is soft and slight alcohol presence.
