Nice deep copper appearance, but very minimal head. Aroma is wonderful, a nice blend of malt with a very slight sweet raisin mixed in. Flavor wasn’t very tolerable due to the sweetness and raisin mixture. If you like raisin maybe this is the beer for you, but it made me sick, especially toward the end. Wasn’t bad enough that I couldn’t soldier through, though. Finished smooth. It was clear the quality level was high despite the fact that I couldn’t handle the taste.

One dimensional in a grrrreeeaaat way. Raisin and pit fruits to a severe level all around. The sweetness in this is such a natural fig in the field type that it is never overwhelming. A Belgian-esque yeastiness pairs with the raisin and impending caramel character sticks around throughout to create a full roundness to the brew. Great medium oily body with sticky resins everywhere. Big, sticky sweet and lovely, this aged beautifully. Thank You Dogfish Head. 2007 12 oz.

Have had this many times. I feel it ages really well especially after Slander opened that aged Magnum at BCTC. Dark in color and really rich as it pours. Aroma is rich, sweet, caramel, molasses, raisins and grain. Flavor is sweet and slightly boozy with raisins and sticky caramel. Nice.

Pours deep caramel brown with a creamy tan froth. The nose is caramel, brown sugar, raisin, and alcohol. The taste is similar with a more profound sweet malt and raisin at first, followed with a caramel aftertaste and a very warm alcohol touch on the backend. This was one i’ve been saving for about 6 months and it was worth it. A really good beer from DFH.

opq-cpr, no head, full body, §co2.

aroma like sherry or barleywine.

^fruity warm grainy T1 warm raisin barleywine T2T3.

might not have noticed the raisin flavor if it wasn’t on the label but I think that’s a good thing.

Pours opaque, murky brown into my pint glass, clear amber into my friend’s with minimal head in both from the 9 dollar, 12oz. bottle (aged two years): If I took a whiff of this blindfolded, I’d be sure it was soy sauce. Deconstructing it a little further, you get raisins, tootsie rolls and alcohol in the nose, and raisins. Extremely sweet malted, mild fruit flavors, and sharp alcohol that’s hidden well. Reminds me of brown, oven baked bread, or pears soaked in a Port. Thick mouthfeel. Drinkability: Strong. Rebuy: Yeah. #242 on 06122009, DG.

Rasiny sweet smelling. Deep amber brown, no head to speak of, filtered. The high alcohol content hits you up front blending to the sweet/rasin flavors and finishing warm and strongly roasty.

Reddish amber with a very small head that leaves minimal lacings. A very powerful smell of sweet malts, caramel, brown sugar, alcoholic fumes and most of all raisins in abundance. The smell is quite reminiscent of fine spirits. The taste is very sweet with malts, caramel and raisins everywhere. Notes of cocoa, leather and wood. The finish is mildly bitter with more sweetness and more raisins to it. The alcohol is present already in the mouth and becomes really strong in the finish - like a warming sweet liqueur or a cognac. Full-bodied with a gentle carbonation. A strange, yet intriguing beer. The amount of sweetness and raisin flavors in this one are off the chart. I didn’t think it was overly complex since the character is so reliant on sweet boozy raisins, but I really enjoyed it nonetheless. Stating that it’s a sipper is probably superfluous - this one drinks as a fine cognac. My sample consisted of about a third of a bottle, and that was almost more than enough. I don’t think I would want to drink a whole bottle of it on my own. Serving type: bottle (Copy of old Beer Advocate review)

2005 vintage bottle. Pours a light brown, tea like colour with a small beige head. Aroma of alcohol, dark fruits, brown sugar, and caramel. Strong flavour of alcohol, dates, raisins, figs, plums, caramel, and brown sugar. Intoxicatingly good stuff.
