Smells like fresh roasted coffee and chocolate with botanicals and hops. Surprisingly light weight for it’s ridiculous alcohol. It has enough carbonation to keep it crisp, but it finishes heftly and still like an aged Pedro Ximenez. Chocolate, coffee, chicory, slightly smokey with mild hops on the finish. I taste mocha for a couple minutes after I take a sip, the finish is ridiculous. Very good, not the best. epf33 (222), Fairfax, Virginia, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 15, 2009 Bottle. Pours a completely opaque black with a one finger tan head that faded almost immediately. The nose is sweet dark fruits, chocolate covered bananas, roasted barley and alcohol. Taste is plums, figs, roast, ashy cocoa, light coffee and booze. Medium, oily slick mouth feel. A touch sweet for my tastes, but it does hide the huge ABV. Good stout. 3Faveryrogue (113), Aslip, Illinois, USA

Beautiful oily pour.Thin cinammon tan head. Boozy smells. Wine, liqourice, chocolate, raisin, cherries, candy, meat(?). Nice carbonation. Medium mouthfeel with great drinkability. Sweet, dark and roasty tastes. Alcohol is present but hidden VERY well. This is worth every penny of 8 or 9 bucks. Definitely a sipper. nbutler11 (771), Phoenix, Arizona, USA

Pours a silky black color with a trim reddish brown head. Smells of bourbon, not the barrel. One could probably take shots of this. Tastes of dark fruits, molasses, dark cocoa, and plenty of barley (as advertised). Killer.
01 Bottle at bockyhorsey’s pad. Ages incredibly well. Decadently weet with powdered cocoa, slight licorice, cherry, and raisin. You would never think this is 18%. mikalooch (172), , New Jersey, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 13, 2009 Pours deep dark black with a very thin beige head. Aroma is raisins with malt and a hint of chocolate. Taste is sweet dark chocolate, roasted malts, spice and molasses, very sweet. Thick mouthfeel with definite alcohol presence. Is very reminiscent of a port wine like the description says, packs a wallop. For fans of a sweet and strong stout. GodOfThunder (880), Orlando, Florida, USA

Aroma is concentrated raisins with some sweetness and a little alcohol. Flavor is more raisins, a lot of sugar and more dark fruits. Fairly smooth and no head. It isn’t bad, just overly sweet. Bottled On: 10/29/05
Appearance: Humble black body with a small (and getting smaller by the second), tan-colored head. Nice legs!
Smell: Starting things off are notes of sugary sweet chocolate candy, a half teaspoon of soy sauce, raisin extract, a glass of Harveys’ Bristol Cream, and a distinct note of highly charred sugars. Wafts of punchy alcohol as it begins to warm.
Taste: Intensely sweet and crammed to the gills with flavors of chocolate syrup, maple syrup, Coca-Cola syrup, simple syrup, and lets says raisin-flavored syrup. There’s some roast in there, but it came be missed while you’re getting revved up from all that extreme sweetness. Whew! A tiny pinch of anise. More Bristol Cream. More juicy raisins. Maybe even some black cherries (although, with the alcohol starting to kick in, I could be conjuring up all sorts of crazy stuff). A few drops of day-old coffee. Maybe some dark stained wood. While you can definitely feel all the alcohol in here, it’s not coming through too terribly much in the taste, like a dreadful Avery Mephistopheles.
Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium-low carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel. All the while it’s warming on the tongue and warming in the belly.
Drinkability: Paired rather well with the film Harold & Maude and its soundtrack by Cat Stevens. A unique, high-octane beer that, surprisingly, is sorta somewhat maybe kinda drinkable. It’s hard not to break down laughing really. Don’t drink if you’ve had anything less than a full night’s rest, as it’ll gentle lull you to sleZZZZZZZZZZZ.z.zzZ
