2007 - Dark green cap, date stamp
2008 - Yellowish-green cap, date stamp
World Wide Stout is one of the world’s strongest dark beers. It is brewed using six different yeast strains over seven months and then aged for half a year. Dark, rich, roasty, and complex, World Wide Stout has more in common with a fine port than a can of cheap, mass-marketed beer (released in early winter with very limited availability).

I never imagined that my favorite beer would be a stout from Delaware, but this one knocked me off my feet. I was equally surprised that it was 18% as the alcohol is not overpowering in taste. It’s a sweet, malty beer, and I wish I could buy it in Georgia.

Bottle. Pitch black, almost no head. Raisin and chocolate aroma, plum, figs, fruits, vinous, sherry notes, some blueberry (?), tar, chocolate, sweetish with coffee and cocoa notes. Figs and raisins in flavor, fruits, rather malty, vinous, sweetish chocolate notes, coffee plum and of course rather roasted. Huge body and alcohol is very well hidden. Nice lacing and with a distinct malty fig and raisin finish.

12 oz bottle from a trade with thecheeseman. pours black with a short lived fizzy tan head. aromas are of boozy dark fruit and sweet roasted malts but the alcohol burning the hair out of my nostrils doesnt make up for the niceness that lays beneath it. flavours are insane. probably the best flavour profile ive ever had in a beer but again the alcohol shines through and ruins the party. ok i admit it i drank this very young and if i cellared this it could be way better but i thought what the hell and opened this at least 2 years too early. the next time i get some of this i will cellar it and re-rate it at that time. till then all i can do is tell you what i expeirienced tonight and that was only partially enjoyable.

Looking at a 2003 and 2005 bottle. 03’ has sweet strong malt aroma...tasty body...excellence balance for a imp. stout lover, which I am! There is an aroma of alcohol and it’s in the taste and body, but with the flavors of chocolate, raisins, molassas and some bitter notes, it’s wonderful. 05’ is rougher, grunt, snort...love the older stuff especially.

Bottle 2007: Black, small head, coffee colored. Smell is malt and I swear I smell bourban, maybe not. Super thick. Taste is all malt and you can taste the alcohol, which I like. 18 percent is alot but doesnt taste that strong. It is a sipper. Good brew.

Pours dark black with a thin tan head. Head retention is very fast. Mouthfeel is light and aromas are of alcohol and alcohol. Tasted light roasted alcohol. Definitely the easiest to drink of the high alcohol DH beers. I think will get even better as it ages.

2007 bottle. Black pour with a very little head, rousing foam fades away quickly. Nose is burnt grain and alcohol, slightly fuselly. Pours thin for such a big beer. Very alcoholic and sweet, not a lot of burn for 18%. The alcohol taste, however, overwhelms the beer and really seems solventy, even after sitting for a bit. Maybe I need to re-rate when I have a bottle that’s a couple years old.

Another favorite from Dogfish Head, now I will put it on paper, so to speak. The cap makes a hiss, and into a tulip it goes. It does not look as thick as other stouts as I pour it. And one can see through this if looking at the edges. The nose contains roasted barley, maybe even some chocolate hints. These are guarded by that 21% ABV. The taste is all malt. Roasted, bitter flavors are complemented by a sweetness that tells me that this one is young. The hops are undetectable by my palate. This needs some age, but eventually this will be world class. Mouthfeel is much lighter than one might expect. Do not misunderstand, This beer is thick and chewy, but I must have expected a motoroil type mouthfeel. Finally, a beer that I don’y want to drink all night. That being said, one twelve ounce bottle is not difficult to get through. Seek this out, cellar it, and maybe drink one with your kids when they are of age, even if your kids are not yet born. Taste and smell improve once this starts to near room temperature.
