2008 - Yellowish-green cap, date stamp
World Wide Stout is one of the world’s strongest dark beers. It is brewed using six different yeast strains over seven months and then aged for half a year. Dark, rich, roasty, and complex, World Wide Stout has more in common with a fine port than a can of cheap, mass-marketed beer (released in early winter with very limited availability).

Pours an intensely thick black with a medium tan head. Aroma is of malts drenched in alcohol. The taste is a fine mix of dark chocolate, roasted malts, and black cherry with the reward of a big alcohol finish. If you’re drinking a whole 12 oz bottle of this stuff, keep the pretzel bowl filled at all times.

Wow. Dark as the night sky in Nunavut. Tan color medium head. Aroma is roasted malts and alcohol. Flavor is predominately sweet, with notes of light bodied coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, ripe cherry and plum, and candy sugar. Medium to full bodied. As strong as this is, the alcohol is well hidden, but does make itself known with a bit of warmth on the back of the throat. Hard to adequately describe something such as this. Big, big beer. This is a must for people who love this style.

okay, first sip incredibly strong, but it poured a very dark cream-colored head. Flavor was incredibly full of sugar. As if it was a sugared candied cone syrup stick. Sugar, coffee and malts all blend together in this beer. The alcohol is not hidden very well in this beer, as it plays a prominent role in the beer. A very well down beer for Dogfish head.

2007 bottle. Very strong beer. Lots of malt. I love HUGE stouts, but this isn’t one of my favorites. Alcohol wasn’t hidden very well. Took a while to drink, which would be fine if the flavor was more complex.

This is a fierce beer. This full-bodied beer has an amazing number of flavors packed into it. It has a thick mouthfeel, but upon swishing I could taste a little bit of smoke with some chocolate, coffee, maybe licorice, and a bit of maltiness. One of the best beers they make, and worth the price tag, if you’re up for the ABV.

From a bottle. Pours a very dark viscous black little to no head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, and alot of sweet malts. Taste is very sweet. Sweet chocolate, coffee and caramel malts. Some smoke is noticable as well. Thick and creamy mouthfeel.

So...although I was extremely impressed with the (18% abv...and it definitely had my head spinnin’) the beer itself was average. As I’ve found for most beers from Dogfish Head, this beer was too sweet for my palate. There are flavors reminiscent of other stouts (chocolate, coffee, caramel, toffee), the taste is a bit much. If you are looking for an extreme beer from this brewery, definitely opt for 120 Min’ IPA.

Foam Rangers January meeting. Dark rich and roasty...with a very sweet taste as well. Smokey as well. Nice.
