I smell rubbing alcohol and sweet chocolate. Whoa crazy taste too! Big alcohol taste with finishings of cocoa. Tastes great but waaaaaaaay too boozy. Pawola22 (783), Kansas City, Missouri, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Sep 2, 2009 12oz bottle with an 11/14/2008 bottled on date. Just under 10 months old. Pours a pitch black body with barely a thin, fizzy, dark brown head that dissipates immediately and leaves only a light amount of bubbles around the edges. A simple swirl arouses some head briefly and coats the glass with a veil of dark brown. Aroma jumps out as soon as I pop the top. Very abundant and complex aroma. Lots of rich and smooth chocolates, robust burnt roasts, cigar smoke, syrupy raisins, pruney alcohol, silky caramels, and some cherry licorice. Flavor is just as complex. There is still a lot of robust, roastiness to this, but its much sweeter than an Expedition or something along those lines...probably due to the 18% alcohol. Starts off with a bit of a grape, chocolate covered cherry, sweet alcohol taste before a deep roast comes in along with some smoke and coffee, syrupy raisins, more milk chocolate, plums, and toffees all while the sweet alcohol stays present. Finishes with more of that sweet alcohol, sweet malts, deep roasts, smoke, a faint bitterness, syrupy raisins, plums, rich chocolates, and a red wine taste. Very dry with a long aftertaste. Light bodied and somewhat syrupy. Despite the dry finish, this makes my tongue salivate like crazy. Pretty cool. Overall, a delicious sipper of a beer. Extremely well balanced. The alcohol is definitely present, but it maintains a sweetness that blends well with the rest of the complex aromas and flavors. It doesn’t really leave any heat on the backend either, which is very surprising yet enjoyable. Sweeter than some of my all-time favorites thanks to the 18%, but still plenty of rich, bold tastes. Wonderful. Savvy1982 (322), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 29, 2009 Bottle, shared with hobbersr and macadem. Pours cola brown, very fizzy, small head, no lacing. Nose is quite boozy, lifted, and complex. Quite sweet, it shows notes of bourbon, cinnamon, smoke, sweet burnt sugar, coffee, molasses. Very big and boozy in the mouth, and almost too sweet. roasty, but very simple. Must try an older example. Until then, my rating stands. minister (1), Alabama, USA does not count | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 23, 2009 full body, lively, long finish, medium sweetness, medium bitterness, black, aminimal head, coffee, roasty, alcohol, mesperon (150), Jersey City, New Jersey, USA

Poured deep dark with a hint of dark cola on the edges, faint tan head that didn’t last. Heavy biut silky mouthfeel. Stong aroma of dark roast, sweet dark chocolate, ripe fruit. Strong coffee/dark chocolate, very evident warming from the alcohol. Rich roasty and warming finish. Paired extremely well with cheese and chocolate/peanut butter dessert. dimenhetfield (210), , Florida, USA

I’ve had the 120 minute IPA which is 21% ABV, but nothing compares to this. It’s big and robust. Intense flavors and aromas. It puts your tounge in a headlock and makes you submit. ericandersnavy (1139), crossroads, Texas, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 18, 2009 Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, a dark black color with a thicker pour. A fairly large, foamy dark tan head developed, but had short retention and not much cling. The aroma was heavy with barley and malt, with tones of molasses, raisin, some chocolate and coffee, and a toasty effect; maybe a bit of earthy hops and a floral presence too. The taste is full and heavy, with a strong and sharply sour barley malt flavor, maybe a bit of grain and raisin too. The beer is syrupy and very thick on the palate, with a wet, extremely-full body, that must be sipped. It was dry at the finish with a noticeable burn of alcohol and a bit of roughness. The beer is quite complex and a lot to take on, but settles after a minute and becomes pretty enjoyable.
