Definetly a sipping beer. Very dark with almost no head. A chocolate and coffe aroma. Strong alcohol flavor, good beer to try once.

An (obviously) potent beast. The Jagermeister comparison is valid in many ways (color, flat head, density). The combination of sweetness and spice is oh so nice. It is impressive that Dogfish Head can make their huge beers (like this and 120 min IPA) much more than a novelty. The flavor and complexity here is truly astounding. No one element stands out. Unfortunately my body can’t handle too many sips to try to extract the individual goodies in here.

Very strong, almost flat, Jagermeister-like brew. Drank it out of a large shot glass - swigging is not advised. Sampling 6/03 thru 3/04 (5 different bottles) - consistantly strong coffee, deep plum flavor, best enjoyed as an a aperitif with another beer - if you can find a dusty bottle with the marker line across the label at your local brewhouse, enjoy a sideline into beer that is almost liquor (and slowly).

Sampled June 2004: The difference between this and the 18% version is obvious. The alcohol is everywhere in this thing. That said its still a pretty good sipper. Intense aroma of raisins, alcohol, nutty, rummy. Black and oily appearance, minimum carbonation. Intense and heavy palate. Very strong alcoholic presence. Raisiny and acrid with strong burnt flavors. Alcoholic finish. Some chocolate or mild espresso, plummy, prunes or figs arise deeper into the glass.

Poured with almost no head, dark black color. Aromas of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, maple syrup, and alcohol. Tastes sweet and syrupy with a moderate alcohol (but no where near the 23%) finish. Not a beer you can drink fast - one to sit down, sip and enjoy.

To me, this is not a stout. More like a cross between wine and liquor. Pours a deep oily black with no head whatsoever. Taste is a bit harsh with a strong alcohol presence. There are strong notes of dark fruit, chocolate, coffee, liquor and wine. Extremely sweet and syrupy. Mouthfeel is very syrupy yet not exactly thick either. The alcohol level clears your sinuses. I guess I would love this if I was really into wine and various other liquors but it’s not my thing. A novelty brew.

A pitch black beer with almost no head. Sweet chocolate aroma with a lots of alcohol, too much in my opinion. Flavor is extremely sweet again with alcohol penetrating. Notes of coffee and chocolate but the alcohol is dominating. Not as good as the two other WWS, it is way too strong for me!

Deep, dark mahogany color with absolutely no head. Very strong rum, malt and cherry aroma. Sweet, sweet cherry, banana, malt and sugar flavors. Thick feel, with very light carbonation and a strong alcohol bite. I love sweet beers, but this borders on too sweet. Still one of the best!
