Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA Apr 8, 2003 I'm almost scared to try this brew. It's more alcohol then i'm used to having.I can almost guarantee that i won't get through the whole bottle. Here goes.Dark as the blackest depth's of hell.No head of any kind. The aroma is some what malty, almost smells like a liquoer with that definate get in your face alcohol smell, almost smells like Wild Turkey Bourbon. Now for the taste.Holy shit this stuff is harsh barley wine like feel, malty sweet and bang that alcohol hits you like brick wall.the after taste is wine like with a definate very pronounced alcohol finish that gives you that feeling of downing a straight shot of Wild Turkey. If it wern't for the syrupy feel i could take the alcohol. This is definately a brew to be tried but not something to indulge in to heavily, unless your a total drunk with no self control.you have to damn near force yourself to swallow this stuff,it's that stiff a brew.I have to say i'm glad i have only 1 bottle of this,i don't think i could take much more of this bombardment. This definately takes a special kind of person to enjoy this stuff. bluemeow76 (693), Lewis Center, Ohio, USA Apr 2, 2003 Black pour with a thin tan head. Aroma and flavor are crazy sweet and strong on the alcohol. I give it high points for the complexity of it, but I really can't drink the stuff. daboskabouter (1470), Fergus, Ontario, Canada Mar 29, 2003 Very, very dark brown appearance. Alcohol is first noticed in the nose, then meat and steak spice with some smokiness. Heavy on the malt and a touch of coffee. Body is incredibly smooth and quite roasted with surprising lack of alcohol bite. But boy do you feel this going down. Outstanding work for this ABV, complex and tasty, almost liqeurish. egajdzis (3602), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 26, 2003 Updated: Aug 27, 2003OK my palate has developed some since I first had this, so it deserves a re-rate. Poured jet black with no head. Aroma of port, fruit (dark grapes?), roasted barley, and yes, alcohol. Taste was very sweet up front, then roasted barley, nut?, sweet chocolate, and alcohol all the way down to my gut. This is a strong one! Radek Kliber (3912), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada Mar 23, 2003 Very dark brown, almost opaque black. At this strength you do not expect to see any foam? Highly aromatic and alcoholic. This beer has so many good qualities in it but sadly they are well hidden from my taste buds by 23 % of alcohol. That’s way too much. joeycapps (1466), Waterdown, Ontario, Canada Mar 20, 2003 Black. Very small head. Aroma of dark fruit, coffee and (mostly) alcohol. Smooth, velvety feel. Very sweet. Lovely melange of raisin, dates, coffee, strong brandy, vanilla, nuts. Alcohol is well covered--nonetheless finish is warming. Oakes (8057), gone rambling, Vietnam Mar 18, 2003 Black. Aroma of Vietnamese coffee & phenols. Vague nuts. Mellow malt, vanilla, nuts, coffee. Stiff alcohol in the sweet finish. Good, but not great, like its predecessor. goz (359), Chelmsford, Massachusetts, USA Mar 12, 2003 Pours a gorgeous super deep black, with a quickly diminishing small tan head that leaves no lacing. As soon as the top came off, the alcohol aroma was present, as was lots of dark fruitiness (raisin, plum), some syrup, and some chocolate. Flavor was overly sweet to start, slightly better in the middle when the fruit, syrup, and chocolate flavors mix and mellow a little, and then the alcohol kicks in with a tongue numbing, belly warming thump. This is probably not something I would try again, just not my style.
