Pours pitch black with almost no head. Yum! Roasted and very vinous with notes of plums, dark berries, dark dried fruit, coffe and chocolate. Some caramel and spices as well. Wild but great. Doesnt feel as 23%. Nice hoppy finish. Theis (3617), Denmark Feb 11, 2007 Bottle - First newbie tasting club - Lars brought it. Pitch black - no head - I tryed !! Aroma: raisins, plums, coffee, chokolate. Taste: Chokolate, raisins, vineous, plums, light roastedness, high hopped. What can I say - heavy shit !! No trace of the 23% ABV !! sliffy (1966), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jan 25, 2007 Bottle thanks to nolankowal for sharing: Black pour with almost no head. Aroma, some chocolate, and a lot of alcohol, there was a sweetness to it as well. Flavor, molasses, some chocolate, roasted malts, and just a ton of heat from the alcohol. It was tough to get past that. For a 4+ year old beer, it still tasted like it was a month old. SubstanceT (1090), Saint Louis, Missouri, USA Jan 14, 2007 #986, Bottle at the Champaign-Urbana private tasting held at Radio Maria. Special thanks to Phillip for providing this monster. I am a huge fan of the WWS, in fact when I got into beer it was one of the first beers that I really enjoyed. To try this vintage has really made my day. Dark dark brown, thin with nearly no head. Nose is very sweet, suggary with just a bit of smoke glazing. The taste has lots of alcohol but tart and tangy crisp with just a touch of sugar. Big, nasty and great. Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA Jan 9, 2007 Courtesy of Pailhead. Dark brown with mahogany edges, completely flat, very oily. Nose is full of alcohol, actually burns when taking a big whiff. Tons of residuel sugar, toffee and caramel. Flavor much the same, overly sweet and cloying. Mostly caramel and toffee, faint vinous notes, either fig or raisin, not a hint of coffee or choclate. As it warms alcohol takes over. Warming finish. Philip (436), Illinois, USA Jan 3, 2007 Bottle courtesy of Tim. Thanks! Shared with the CU Beer Club at the 1/1 Radio Maria tasting. Wow this was amazing. Notes of bacon fat and oak on the nose lead into rich and heavenly palate. This hides its alcohol amazingly.I would have guessed 10-12% at most. Impressive chocolate meets kahlua meets smoke and oak. One of the best beers of 2006. presario (2953), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Dec 2, 2006 Even have a picture of the crossed out words. A bit of a surprise at a tasting with Oakes. Can best be described as a very fine Tennessee sipping molasses. A trace of soy. I can imagine that this was the goal of Sam Adams Triple Bock. Preferred the lower ABV.
