awaisanen (1279), Irvine, California, USA May 6, 2006 From Bottle. Tasted side by side with the 18% version. Dark black, sticky looking pour with absolutely no head. Even swirling vigorously produces only a slight trace of carbonation. Massive aroma of port wine loaded with punes and other vinous boozey notes. Plenty of legs lacing the glass. Loads of molasses and a hing of freshly baked ginger snap cookie. Ultra heavy, coke-syrup caliber gravity with a hint of blueberry sugars, black cherry, and dates. Sugars, port, sugars, port - cloying is an understatement. This is one intense brew. Very interesting taste, but it couldn’t be any more different from its 18% counterpart. Its hard to believe these are of the same style, let alone the same brewer. Thanks, Matt! Aroma of liquorice, alcohol and dried fruits.
Sweet flavour of alcohol, liquorice and dried fruits.
Tastes more like dessertwine than stout. Pailhead (2572), Allen Park, Michigan, USA Feb 26, 2006 Updated: Mar 1, 2006Bottle: Courtesy of Eyedrinkale via trade. Huge alcohol aroma, almost tequila-like. Behind all the alcohol is chocolate, molasses, and the slightest hint of roastiness. Vinous aromas in there as well. Probably the most alcohol I’ve smelled in a beer outside of the Utopias. Pours a very dark brown, with no transparency with a minimal tan head. Very sweet. Sugary sweet with some light hints of fruit (apple) and sweet chocolate. Finish is rather vinuous with lots of alcohol and a moderate warming affect. Definitely a sipping a beer in small amounts. Just a tad too sweet for my preferences. MikeMac (185), Wyandotte, Michigan, USA Feb 25, 2006 Thanks to pailhead for this one . Poured a black beauty little tsn film head. Aroma was almost like a reposado tequila slightly smokey Backed up by molassses and roast malt. Flavor was suprisingly creamy with an alcohol burn at the end. Hot Hot Hot. Hints of molasses, chocolate light licorice and rasin. Quite impressive. BeerandBlues2 (3201), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Feb 18, 2006 12-oz. bottle via trade with firemoose15.
