| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 15, 2003 Strongly sweet, malty, alcoholic aroma, some licorice, plum and roasted coffee. Solid ebony in color with a thin head that eventually subsides altogether. Syrupy sweet, thick, very dark maltiness in the flavor, along with some apparent alcohol, vanilla, nut, and bitter dark chocolate. Certainly fiery and alcoholic but with a still, smooth, and slightly oily palate. While I did find this beer an interesting experience, I honestly felt it was a bit much. One could cellar this stuff for at least a decade. Angeloregon (2025), Portland, Oregon, USA

No head. Flavor of a chocolate-malt wine or port. Wicked vinous. Sweet, boozy, complex. Lots of fruits and booze heat. Very interesting. Wouldn’t characterize this as an imperial stout, but ok! radiomgb (2020), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 19, 2003 Deep black in colour. Aroma is very sweet, of alcohol and extreme amounts of malt. Flavour is very, very sweet, malty, lots of chocolate, small amounts of coffee. Finishes very sweet with lots of alcohol. Not quite as balanced as the 18% but still very well made for such a huge beer. Thanks ciderguy. sliffy (2012), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 25, 2007 Bottle thanks to nolankowal for sharing: Black pour with almost no head. Aroma, some chocolate, and a lot of alcohol, there was a sweetness to it as well. Flavor, molasses, some chocolate, roasted malts, and just a ton of heat from the alcohol. It was tough to get past that. For a 4+ year old beer, it still tasted like it was a month old. DaSilky1 (1999), San Diego, California, USA

Big strong aroma huge roasted malts and toffee plums raisens prevelant alcohol and some weak chocolates
Palate bites your tongue, full and creamy some carb and a hot feel
Flavor is dark fruits plums and raisens lots of alcohol, some dry chocolate w/ an
unidentifiable grain (barley is my guess though), then some more maltiness.
This beer is just over the top but still good stuff
Thank for the trade Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 8, 2003 I'm almost scared to try this brew. It's more alcohol then i'm used to having.I can almost guarantee that i won't get through the whole bottle. Here goes.Dark as the blackest depth's of hell.No head of any kind. The aroma is some what malty, almost smells like a liquoer with that definate get in your face alcohol smell, almost smells like Wild Turkey Bourbon. Now for the taste.Holy shit this stuff is harsh barley wine like feel, malty sweet and bang that alcohol hits you like brick wall.the after taste is wine like with a definate very pronounced alcohol finish that gives you that feeling of downing a straight shot of Wild Turkey. If it wern't for the syrupy feel i could take the alcohol. This is definately a brew to be tried but not something to indulge in to heavily, unless your a total drunk with no self control.you have to damn near force yourself to swallow this stuff,it's that stiff a brew.I have to say i'm glad i have only 1 bottle of this,i don't think i could take much more of this bombardment. This definately takes a special kind of person to enjoy this stuff. hophead75 (1959), Boonton, New Jersey, USA

Dark brown, just about black. Aroma- alot of molasses, chocolate, dark fruits- sherry, alcohol. Taste is chocolate, light roast, licorice, and alot of molasses sweetness, raisins/plums/sherry still somewhat boozy even after 6 years of aging. Very sweet, kind of cloying.
