Excellent color but with very little (if any head). Maybe I should have poured it at a warmer temperature. Rich aroma with plenty pf alcohol sweetness and licorice. Over the top alcohol content which was stronger than I prefer. My gums were tingling after the second mouthful. Taste is excellent with many flavors hidden under the alcohol. Not as strong of a flavor as some other stouts though. Truely a complex beer. Very good for special occasions but not as a regular. Don’t plan on doing much the rest of the day after drinking this one. A very good stout but the selling point for this beer is the alcohol content and not because of the flavor. Sweet in a a mighty similar way to Raisonm D'Etre and Indian Brown. Yeah, the alcohol's *pretty well hidden*, but how well can you hide 23%? Good, but thinnish (obviously not very). Loses the roasty notes that are still discernable in the 18% version. Definitely not an Imp. Stout; as VENOM says, don't go lookin' for one of those here. This just doesn't do it for me. Nose is predominantely raisin, some caramel, brown sugar, molasses, port, chocolate, coffee. Alcohol burns the nose a bit, port up front, loads of honey and raisin. Alcohol burn takes the front but then gives way to cocoa, honey, raisin and crazy malt finish. One dimensional compared to the ’03. Perfect level of carbonation. Becomes much more alcoholic as it warms - too much honestly. I wouldn’t want another 12oz The problem here is really the packaging. The aroma is brown sugar, caramel, toffee and boozy. The flavor can be best describe as sugar water. Absolutely, gut-wrenching sweetness followed up by wave after wave of alcohol. Turbinado sugar, cola and caramel were all I could get before I had to stop the torture. Full+ body is sticky and syrupy. Terrible. Thanks for letting me try this beer Ken. Nice floral and vanilla smell, so appealing. Taste sends alcohol up through your nose like a shot of rum. Not as complex or as good as the 18% version, but quite acceptable. You can tell a lot of work went into producing this fine stout. A classic.
