Beautiful black- jet black. Leaves lovely legs on the wine glass. Lotsof port notes. Much more palatable then that shite that Sam Adams keeps atempting. I shared this bottle with my wife, and I easily don’t think I would have liked to try it on my own. I was glad to share it with someone.Truly unique. Yummy.

| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Nov 3, 2002 Updated: Nov 10, 2003The new batch for this year is out!! I traveled all the way down there (3 hours or so) just to get some of this brew & let me tell you it was more than worth the trip, according to Sam at DFH, WWS is now the world's strongest beer available commercially at 23%, it also has an astonshing 666.65 calories in a 12 oz bottle, the aroma was sweet, malty & very similar to a fine port, black in color, just a little bit of foam around the perimeter of the glass, the alcohol was masked very well for being at the level it is, very complex flavors, roasted coffee, a bit of some fruity flavors as well, full-bodied, certainly is a sipping beer, take your time drinking this one, the alcohol level certainly warms your entire body up as well, my chest felt like it was on fire by the end of the glass, this is a super, incredible stout, now one of my favorites, get some if you can! jasonp (1513), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 31, 2004 To me, this is not a stout. More like a cross between wine and liquor. Pours a deep oily black with no head whatsoever. Taste is a bit harsh with a strong alcohol presence. There are strong notes of dark fruit, chocolate, coffee, liquor and wine. Extremely sweet and syrupy. Mouthfeel is very syrupy yet not exactly thick either. The alcohol level clears your sinuses. I guess I would love this if I was really into wine and various other liquors but it’s not my thing. A novelty brew. beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Dec 15, 2003 Pours out a blackish cola color settles inky black with thin little brown highlights at the edges, no head or lace was produced but not necessarily anticipated due to the 23% ABV.
Aroma is largely warming and candy sweet alcohol, port-like dark fruitness within; between each breath of heat resides some raisin, dark cherry, dates, currant, molasses, cocoa, and chocolate, touches of spice too but the sweetness of candy-like oakyness and brandyish alcohol retains on top with strength maintaining a nice portly bouquet.
Taste is super full and oily thick with nice deepness of sweet port-like alcohol, very warming and soothingly rich, lots of barley sweetness, candyish and strong, playful but with a certain flare of aggresion that lets you know if you get out of line it'll lay you out flat. Flavors are sweet, deep, rich and invigorating, good amount of dark fruityness with more raisin then anything, mixing with some dates, black cherry, and currants, molasses and vanilla notes with oakened sweetness and some touches of chocolate, cocoa, and espresso. Oh...and the warming, oh the warming, so very nice... meltingly nice.
Feel is rich and full, warming, somewhat puckering sweet but maintains a great smooth oily-like creamyness with a favorable punch of good Ol' alcoholic burn and sweetness in the end. Quite a ride with this one, lots of everything; surely a major sipper but it has a dangerously smooth chararter that thankfully keeps its alcoholic edge as to keep you in check. Great, great stuff, akin to Sam Adams Triple Bock. TheEpeeist (1480), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 28, 2008 12 oz bottle. My 99th Imperial Stout rating! Dark chestnut brown with a few bubbles along the edge. Nose is rich dark chocolate and alcohol. Silky, lush and sensual. Alcohol, yes, but not as hot as expected; refined like a fine liqueur. Taste is chocolate, molasses, fig and a touch of maple. No hints of oxidation after six years. Amazing. daboskabouter (1470), Fergus, Ontario, Canada
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 29, 2003 Very, very dark brown appearance. Alcohol is first noticed in the nose, then meat and steak spice with some smokiness. Heavy on the malt and a touch of coffee. Body is incredibly smooth and quite roasted with surprising lack of alcohol bite. But boy do you feel this going down. Outstanding work for this ABV, complex and tasty, almost liqeurish. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 22, 2003 One mother of a beer. Jet black, no head, a bit of lacing. No color highlights either. You can hold it up to a spotlight and the light will not penetrate. Strong alcohol aroma. Lots of sweet malt, molasses, and roasted aromas. Big alcohol burn but others that are not as strong have burned more on the way down. Quite sweet, lots of licorice and sugar. Somewhat oily mouthfeel. Needs to be tried by all for the experience, needs a repeat performance because it's actually really good and one bottle will make the beast next to you look attractive. joeycapps (1466), Waterdown, Ontario, Canada
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Mar 20, 2003 Black. Very small head. Aroma of dark fruit, coffee and (mostly) alcohol. Smooth, velvety feel. Very sweet. Lovely melange of raisin, dates, coffee, strong brandy, vanilla, nuts. Alcohol is well covered--nonetheless finish is warming.
