OK, I just tried the latest, 23% version, on tap (11/02). In a reversal from my previous experience (18%) I have to say I really enjoyed the WWS this time around. Nicely balanced, on par with port with some similar characteristics. Plummy, raisins, slightly chocolaty. Warming, but not burning alcohol. Purple-black, filmy head. 666 calories/12 oz bottle. Yikes!

Big huge brew. On Tap at the strong ale fest 2002.Nose is a big malty brew with so much going on. More like a port than a beer. Great brew, huge potential not for the light of heart.

Maybe it was a mistake to save this for the last beer of a rating night with friends. Maybe it was a mistake of downing my glass within 5 minutes (after TogBean dumped her third of this beer into my glass). Ok, so i was kinda toasted to begin with by the time i even got to this one, but i managed to take some notes..."sweet moleasses...heh, mole asses, hahahaha; almonds, burning like burbon". maybe it was a mistake to try and take notes while i was already loopy. i dunno. what i do remember of this beer before it sent me to bed was that it was yummy. damn yummy. i remember wanting more when it was gone. i remember staring up at the stars thinking, "hey, that star is moving! that's a satellite!" and then realizing that it was my perception of things that was moving, not the objects themselves. anyways, despite the big kick in this one, it's very tasty. i'd have it more often if it weren't almost $10 a bottle.

Strong aroma of alcohol. A totally different beer than the 18%, in style and taste. In my opinion, a bit too much. Flavor is sharp fruit, somewhat port/brandy. Very complex, but alcohol is not balanced nearly as well as the 18% version. Not any chocolate flavor. Not a bad beer by any means...but slightly disappointing and too much to handle. Straddling the line of what should ever be brewed as beer.

Totally thick black color, no head at all. Aroma is slightly sweet, coffee notes, dark fruit (raisens, red grapes), with a strong alcohol base underlying the other aspects. Flavor is pretty sweet, with the strong alcohol present throughout the flavor. Palate is crazy thick. Although the alcohol is very present in this brew, I still say it hides it pretty well, considering how high ABV it is. I liked it, and I reallly think the people who said that this was more like liquor than beer are just wrong. This may be beer on steroids, but it is still beer through and through.

Black pour with a thin tan head. Aroma and flavor are crazy sweet and strong on the alcohol. I give it high points for the complexity of it, but I really can't drink the stuff.

Very thick, very dark beer. The beer tasted like a thick liquor with hints of molasses, chocolate, and roasted barley. This beer must be sipped. The sweetness and the bitterness is not enough to calm the alcohol. A little too over the edge for me.

Thanks to mojuck for this whopper of a beer! Pour is thick and pitch black...no head at all. Im tackling this myself, and at this point I am considering if this is a good idea. Aroma is of booze, caramel, chocolate and a bit winey. Flavor is nice...better than expected. Very hot, but nice roastiness balances. This reminds me of a rum ball. Body is thick and creamy. Very nice after dinner drink.
