Very sweet with a noticeable alcohol presence, oily and port like. It also very sake like, if that makes any sense at all. Lots of complex flavors, chocolate, cherry, fruits and a whole lotta alcohol stuff. Really too much alcohol to be anything but a high alcohol beer. Guess I’m saying it unbalanced towards the alcohol? Definitely worth trying, and I would love to taste this stuff after its been cellared for about 3 years. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and surprisingly smooth. Aftertaste is all alcohol. Thanks for sharing user_experience. thedm (3836), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA

It had a strong aroma of grapes and alcohol. It reminded me of a strong wine. It is 70,000 mile unchanged motor oil opaque black body. WOW! What a strong fruity finish with a bubbly taste that was very sweet and very strong Rciesla (3830), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA

Aroma is matly caramel, chocolate, creamy vanilla. Sweet with a moderated etoh presence. Still a very solid imperial stout and you have to give it credit for being so drinkable at 23% anyone who tells you you cant taste the booze is full of it though. Grovlam (3825), Copenhagen, Denmark

[Papsoe tasting, thanks buddy] spare fizzy light brown head that mostly diminished. Spare lacework. Pitch black color. Aroma of bread, chocolate, coffee, toasted, berries, raisin, prune, date, wood, liquorish, brown sugar, vanilla. The same complexities of aroma are to be found in the WWS 2003. Only the 2002 23% are a bit sweeter and the alcohol shines through a bit more. Still this was an extremely nice experience. Full bodied with a flat carbonation and alcoholic oily texture. Heavy sweet flavor with moderated bitter notes. Almost like good bourbon with an alcoholic burning finish. Myrup really enjoys the heavy alcoholic finish…he he Theis (3791), Denmark

Poured jet black with no head. Aroma of port, fruit (dark grapes?), roasted barley, and yes, alcohol. Taste was very sweet up front, then roasted barley, nut?, sweet chocolate, and alcohol all the way down to my gut. This is a strong one! badgerben (3605), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Dec 8, 2005 Black color with no head. It took a while to pin down the aroma, but I finally figured it out: cheap and poorly made sake. Jet fuel. The taste was slightly sour malt and fairly bitter, with what seemed to be an oddly high amount of rice. Tasted a little like burning. Gross. ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Jan 28, 2005 Updated: Sep 8, 2005Bottle at DFH Extreme night, Anam Cara, 1/27/05. Absolutely pitch black pour at first. As it decants slowly and viscously in to the St Bernardus trappist glass, it seems to suck all of the light in to its murky, dark depths. . . .but then it settles out and I realize this is another filtered creation from DFH. Not going to mistake the bottom of this bottle with that of an Expedition or Dark Lord. No head, little to no carbonation. Aroma of. . .Alcohol! Pure, raw, unadulterated alcohol. The guy I was drinking with said letting it warm and breath would reduce this, and maybe to some extent, it did, but at the very end of the glass, there was still a strong, clear and pervasive stench of alcohol. Some faint hints of tar, dry molasses, and salty, almost smokey chocolate and roast. As far as flavor goes, I was rather put-off. Starts out with an immensely sugary flavor. Like stirring brown sugar in to the glass. Then you’ve got the alcohol, which hits hard and seems to throw everything off. Some notes of salty chocolate, black licorice and a dark smoked flavor all come in to the mix. As far as the body goes, I was not impressed at all. It seemed to have a very loose consistency with the syrupy sweet sugar providing the texture. Being overly filtered, it just didnt have any oomph to it. Not even on the same wavelength as Dark Lord or Expedition, or Owd Macs. Not chewy, not thick in the good sense of the word. Just powerfully syrupy. Black malt is quite evident, notes of maple and some coffee round out the finish. Served as an after dinner cordial, this makes more sense, but then this isnt Rateafterdinnercordials.com. It dosent need this much alcohol. A much better, underlying beer is being bludgeoned to death by the disgusting amount of residual sugar and cloyingly syrupy body.
