The aroma is that of cabernet/shiraz port wine. The initial flavor is sweet with a complex shiraz flavor, some warming alcohol, and roasted barley in the background. bager (2121), Copenhagen N, Denmark

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 29, 2004 Sampled June 2004: The difference between this and the 18% version is obvious. The alcohol is everywhere in this thing. That said its still a pretty good sipper. Intense aroma of raisins, alcohol, nutty, rummy. Black and oily appearance, minimum carbonation. Intense and heavy palate. Very strong alcoholic presence. Raisiny and acrid with strong burnt flavors. Alcoholic finish. Some chocolate or mild espresso, plummy, prunes or figs arise deeper into the glass. Gusler (2655), Tucson, Arizona, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Mar 2, 2003 Well what do you say about a beer that’s 23% alcohol? “Holy Cow Batman”!
As it s sets in the glass, “Dark as the inside of a Cow”, the head microscopic, the color dark chocolate, texture spumous, the lace patchy. Alcohol quite evident, bananas and pineapple, sweet, underpinned by the malt, start is sweet as eating sugar from the bowl, some malt, and the top full, finish “ZAP, ZING, WHOOF”, all alcohol with the hops present but buried under the alcohol, dry and long lasting aftertaste. More than warms the belly, sets it on fire, definitely not meant for people who aren’t into ferine, beastly, bestial, brutal beers, I love it, but only once a year.

It couldn't really be any blacker, completely black with an initial head. absolute loads of hops up front, chocolate and alcohol continues light roast hidden in the sweet kick. Lots of a red wine flavor thats great.
