I held the glass up to the light and couldnt see anything through it. With the first sip the alcohol and sweet flavors were the most noticable, but then the nice malt roasty flavors came through. Has some chocolate and rum flavors. I dont think the Budweiser crowd could handle this. Very complex and interesting.
Not something I would drink often, but worth a try. Yankovitch333 (612), Chesapeake City, Maryland, USA

Dark fruits, chocolate, and alcohol on the tongue. Not as good as the 18% but it's still pretty damn good. hotstuff (3178), Indiana, USA

The alcohol is definitely a little over the top, but this is very good nonetheless as I like high ABV beers. It poured a small sized tan head with fine sized bubbles that fully diminished. The body was opaque and uncarbonated with a black hue. The nose was chocolate and pure alcohol. The flavor was warming and lots of alcohol. The mouthfeel was tingly and had a burning sensation in the throat, but oh so yummy! The lacing was fair. Well worth the try despite the strong alcohol presence. Very dark with light tan head. Flavor has elemets of coffee, wine, berry, cherry, alcohol. Palate is difficult, the alcohol begins to burn the tongue after a while. Yet this beer is still drinkable and somewhat smooth, if it is even still a beer at this point. Wow. JonR888710 (999), Cochabamba, Bolivia
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jun 2, 2003 Beer pours pitch black not allowing any light to penetrate. Just a beautiful ebony colour with no visible head, yet small amounts of bubbles continuously percolate to the surface. It’s a distinctly beautiful beer. Smells like dark fruits (plums, raisins, etc.), barley, coffee, malt and of course, alcohol. The flavour is extremely complex, its best to drink this where your other senses will not be distracted. The beer appears thick but it is not. It wraps a thin coating of sweetness around the tongue along with massive amounts of barley, malt and chocolate and lesser amounts of coffee and caramel. Finishes like a dessert wine with a lingering aftertaste of sweetness and alcohol. Overall, a thoughtfully crafted brew but a little too syrupy sweet for my liking. I poured the 12oz. into a glass and wanted no more than half. I’d recommend enjoying this in 3-4 oz. portions, perhaps sharing it with some friends. There’s definitely enough alcohol for 2 or 3 people. Papsoe (15107), Frederiksberg, Denmark

Dark brown with a vaguee, orange hue - almost no head. Extreme aroma of bourbon and oak. Extremely full body, extremely sweet with lots of raisin notes and other dried fruit. Extremely alcoholic with distinct bourbon notes. The immense alcohol feel puts this a bit off balance. Very subdued bitterness. Still a tremendous beer though. 080707 DJMonarch (6941), Northwich, Cheshire, England

Black and extremely strong in alcohol. Crisp on the palate. Slightly dry lasting finish. TheEpeeist (1483), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA

Dark chestnut brown with a few bubbles along the edge. Nose is rich dark chocolate and alcohol. Silky, lush and sensual. Alcohol, yes, but not as hot as expected; refined like a fine liqueur. Taste is chocolate, molasses, fig and a touch of maple. No hints of oxidation after six years. Amazing.
