Vinuous and spiced, with hints of plums, dates and guess what, alcohol! I can understand the phenomenal status of this beer as it still is a beer, and very much one at that. I know that if I can drink a brew that is 23% alcohol by volume and still taste BEER that in itself is amazing. There's not much else to put this up against as far as by style alone. Sure you've got that whiskey like quality, but who doesn't see an appropriate situation for a glass on the rocks at the right time either. A great, sweet, raisiny finish. kwoeltje (1333), Manchester, Missouri, USA

Full bodied, feels more like a port than a beer. Sweet malt with raisins. A bit like Raison D'Etre but with a lot more oomph. tkaufman (129), Lewis Center, Ohio, USA

Poured like molasses and smelled kind of like fermented molasses with some roastiness thrown in. A very dark and powerful brew, but still very complex and tasty. Alcohol shines through more at the end. Take a good hour to enjoy this one. WabashMan (817), Noblesville, Indiana, USA

I’ve had it sitting for about 4 months now…… I wonder how sloppy I’ll be when I finish this bottle? It’s basically the equivalent of what, 5 B/M/C’s?
Oh, For the Love of God! This isn’t beer, this is a GD bottle of tawny port mixed with Kahula!
The body is motionless, nearly opaque but with edges of crimson.
I am stranded in an inflatable lifeboat in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. It’s a moonless night, and the water is more tranquil than death. I have only a chunk of pure Belgian milk chocolate, a bottle of Porto Ramos-Pinto, a handful of raisins, 6 tablespoons of brown sugar, 3oz of Lebanese Espresso, a small jar of smoky Grade-A Vermont molasses, my bulbous but thinly blown Hapkin Snifter glass, and all the time in the world. I’m World Wide 23, and I’ll rock your socks off baby!
I’m sweet as the havens, but more toasty than Hades. I arrive with ellipse of the sun…. but you don’t remember my exit. I will ravage your brain and impair your sanity. I’ll end your day without warning, but leave you your vanity.
Man this is Great…. And I’m getting Zamboozled!

Bottle thanks to acertain. Split three ways into big snifter. POurs with no visible carbonation, no head wither, Color is blood infused black. Not clarity at all. Of course the aroma is very strong. Still dominated by alcohol. Not as strong as Utopias but still damn strong. Understandable. Outside the alcohol there is chocolate and lts of cherry. Rummy as well. Taste is choclate mixed with run and a hint of cherry. Some roastiness and licorice. Still very strong and very hot. Mouthfeel is very silky and nice. Still ageable and worth trying. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 22, 2003 One mother of a beer. Jet black, no head, a bit of lacing. No color highlights either. You can hold it up to a spotlight and the light will not penetrate. Strong alcohol aroma. Lots of sweet malt, molasses, and roasted aromas. Big alcohol burn but others that are not as strong have burned more on the way down. Quite sweet, lots of licorice and sugar. Somewhat oily mouthfeel. Needs to be tried by all for the experience, needs a repeat performance because it's actually really good and one bottle will make the beast next to you look attractive.
