| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 3, 2003 (draught !) Jet-black, slim brown head. Roasted, grilled bacon, BBQ and soy sauce for a nose. Impossible to write or explain, but you can both SMELL sweet and bitter. This is a quite sweet stout tastewise. Saying it's a very strong one is as forcing open doors, but that's the problem. It's got a rosewater flavour, so sweet it's made lopsided. Still a superb beer, but I prefer the 18%. Mouthfeel: well. Liquified coffee-flavoured pudding with a dash of soy sauce. How DOES that feel? OK - there's alcoholburn. Huge. AlabastorJones (765), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 3, 2004 Chocolate liqour aroma, insanely dense appearance, thin tan head, woahh... that first sip was intense, wow, the 23% really comes across, thick mouthfeel complete with an alcohol burn, the kind that warms your throat like whiskey, surprising amount of carbonation, smooth and syrupy, sweet chocolate, kind of like irish coffee in beer form, this is good for sure, but the alcohol kind of distracts from the stout... so whats goin on with that black line over the label? That's pretty sketch huh? ante (2948), Stockholm, Sweden

Thick and warming flavour of raisin, cognac, espresso and plums. Long oily aftertaste of espresso, port and whiskey. Extreme. Prefer the 2003 version, though. zathrus13 (1301), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA

Kind of like a barleywine/stout mix. Rather sweet, but with a bit of coffee as well. More drinkable then you might expect.
