Solid ebony in color with a thin head that eventually subsides altogether. Syrupy sweet, thick, very dark maltiness in the flavor, along with some apparent alcohol, vanilla, nut, and bitter dark chocolate. Certainly fiery and alcoholic but with a still, smooth, and slightly oily palate. While I did find this beer an interesting experience, I honestly felt it was a bit much. One could cellar this stuff for at least a decade. TAR (2095), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA

Lots of underlying character of tawny port, raisin, prune, vanilla, maple, lightly charred dark honey, and fig. Very soft palate. Flavorful, yet overly cloying and astringent. Port flavors accompanied by assertive notes of prune and vanilla. Long sharp finish of maple and apple. Uncannily similar to some quality ports. Severely lacks drinkability and is one-dimensional. Note: I'm in a smoky taproom with an internet, lots of noise, and little time. I wish I could concentrate better. Andrew196 (1091), Katy, Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 22, 2003 This beer is ridiculous. I believe this is the highest ABV I have ever touched from a beer. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, lots of alcohol and notes of cardboard. Flavor was very full, almost makes me wince. Lots of honey, alcohol, brandy, and chocolate. This beer is large, 46 proof!?!?!? Almost too much, a very good beer though. JFGrind (1354), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA

Starts off with a slight filmy head when it is chilled but vanishes quickly as it warms. Flavors change as the temp changed. I agree that this gets harder and harder to drink as it warms because the alcohol in the taste gets stronger, but more flavors appear after time. Syrupy molases, sugar, dates, rum, brown sugar- anything rediculously sweet si what this beer reminds me of. I think the sweetness and the alcohol blocks any hops that were added. After about 2/3 of a bottle i can feel it sitting very warmly in my stomach, as if I had just taken a couple shots of rum. It has a nice carbonation which lasts the entire time, however a longer lasting head would have ben neat. OK- it has been over an hour and i am almost 3/4 of the way done and although it is really good, I am not sure if i can finish it. Leaves a warm slightly burning sensationon my lips after each sip. Overall the alcohol is hidden quite well for such an extravagant beer, and I would have expected to notice more alcohol than I did, which is not to say it isnt apparent becuase it is- but Dogfish Head did a really nice job with this one. I like very exotic and experimental beers- and maybe next years version will be even stronger?- not sure if that is possible though. Excellent! SilkTork (4184), Rochester, Kent, England

It had been a long hard day of drinking serious beers, and now we were ready for the big one. I went off to make the deal - one opened bottle of the world's strongest beer. The man from BeerAdvocate, fully sober and in charge of the Bier Sans Frontiere bar, stood with his hands on his hips and shook his head. "I can't give you an opened bottle of a beer that strong." No amount of logical arguement, passionate pleading nor drunken sobbing would change his mind. "Bring me four glasses and I'll pour it out, but I aint giving you an opened bottle." Defeated, I went back and told the others the sad news. Nuffield swept to the rescue. He plucked the money from my hand, stormed up to the bar and returned a few moments later with a bottle of the beast clutched in his fist. Obviously, being American, he was judged able to handle his beer like a man....oops, to be continued... Cont/... Celephane, alcohol and vinyl aroma. Not pleasant or encouraging. Sweet and tingly up front. Warming - in fact hot as it goes down. Lots of caramel, toffee, fudge flavours. very pleasant - in fact very yummy, but only in small portions - the alcohol have provoke a gagging reaction. Nice - but way too powerful! mrkimchee (1414), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Can best be described as a very fine Tennessee sipping molasses. A trace of soy. I can imagine that this was the goal of Sam Adams Triple Bock. Preferred the lower ABV.
