Commercial Description:
Dogwood Bock is a German style lager brewed in the traditional bock style to celebrate the coming of spring. It has a big, smooth, rich maltiness, yet is gently shaped and balanced by a firm hoppiness.

amber, frothy white head, good sweet malt flavor, touch of carmel, hint of esters, balanced but not hoppy or bitter, complex for a bock

creamy malt flavor, low bitterness, malty but dry, great carmel character
-------- /> Date: 04/15/2004

still very rich carmel malt flavor with only a touch of sweetness and just enough bitterness in the finish to keep it honest

Pours a copper ruby color with a thin whispy head. Good malty German bock aroma has a hint of strawberries. Body has a nice caramel sweetness and is well balanced with a subtle bitterness. Finishes with a light sourness. A decent bock.

Hazy orange/copper color, light head & lacing. The aroma is lightly sweet with some crisp hops and fruity notes. The flavor is good and balanced with a dry finish and a nice sweet full bodied mouthfeel. A good amount of hops for the style.

Bottle. Brought this bottle back from GA and it was worth the trip. Rich amber color with a medium head that dissolved into just a thin sheet of light bubbles. The aroma is malt, smoke and yeasty. The first thing I get from the taste is a light hop bite then a full malt taste that blankets the tongue. I’ve noticed Dogwood uses malts very nicely, subtle and not too rich. I usually don’t use "chewey" to describe a liquid but this description fits here. Caramel taste as the beer came up in temp.

Had on tap at Taco Mac in Athens Ga. Nice rich malty aroma with a bit of nuts; great lacing with an off-white thick head. Dark copper appearance. Good solid nutty, malty flavor - just the right amount of sweetness for a bock.

Thanks BHB! I have kind of mixed feelings about this one. Before I get into that, the label on this beer is really trippy. Brownish-orange color with Dogwood’s characteristically huge head that tries your patience as you pour it. Lightly hopped aroma. Malty flavor that was a little sour on the end, but not necessarily bitter in a good way. Carbonation was a little on the heavy side and detracted from the flavor due to the ruckus in my mouth. Not the best Dogwood I have had, but not a terrible beer either.

This beer was freaky boring, tastes alot of Shiner. That is what I thought this was in a blind taste test, just a tad lighter. Nice balance, with more than I was expecting for the style. Boring.

Burgundyish brownish red, with a nice white head. Grainy, toasty aroma. Full, nutty flavors, with a slightly flat finish. Sampled at the brewery on the Great Atlanta Pub Crawl, 2004.
