Incredibly this has now become one of my favorite IPA's due to it's agressive hop bitternes and clean, refreshing taste. It just goes to prove how much your taste in beer can change over time. 9/7/2002 Draft- If you are into hoppy beers then this one is right up your alley. The hop flavor is way too over the top for me but this is still a quality brew. wade (58), Decatur, Georgia, USA

Dogwood got a giant headout of bottle. Looks good, smells good and tastes great. Nothing better after a long hot day than great beer. This is seriously underrated in my opinion. Great hops/malts sweet tea undertone. Good southern beer!!!! The head on this one lasts a long time. Again, much much better than average score. I would pursue this one if I hadn’t just finished it. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Dec 27, 2002 Only thing I did not like about this was the label - looks like it wants to be a malt liquor - but since I do not ding for labels like my buddy Aurelius - I still gave it a 4 for appearance as I like the orangish color and the long lasting head. Aroma is everpresent and reminiscent of walks through microbrewries out west where you can smell the freshly picked hops. Grapefruit taste is prevalent but not overpowering. Strong finish - impressed by Dogwood thus far. Need to pay them a visit. wilkie (1191), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA

The pour is a nice turbid orangish/light copper with a medium, creamy white head. My initial olfactory perceptions show big ground black pepper, hops, roses, citrus, and some fruit. The taste is hoppy, with some floral and spice notes, plus citrus at mid-palate, giving way to a hop/citrus/black peppery finish. The finish is also on the dry side, with some resin and piney notes as it warms. The only other beer I ever had showing this much black pepper in aroma and taste is Sam Adams Boston lager. This one was complex, nicely balanced, and well worth seeking out. fro2218 (466), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 1, 2003 Pours with an off-white head and a medium brown cloudy color. Looks EXACTLY like you'd want an IPA to look like. Nice spicy, earhty hop aromas are a departure from the citric, piney norm in American IPAs. Bold toffeeish malt body balances hop presence well. Hops appear throughout the flavor profile, which ends in a moderately bitter and mostly clean finish. Good, and a welcomed change of pace from the typical citric/piney American IPAs.
