Dark brown and mysterious it rewards you with a plethera of flavors and nuances. Quite malty up front but mellow in the finish. Leaves a nice hop bitterness lingering on the tongue. Best Dogwood beer I've tasted. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA

A definite porter quality with some nice mellow roastiness, nutty flavor dominate. Nice chocolately coffee esque character that is not overly sweet or bitter. Perfectly balanced and lightly complex. biermonk (259), San Francisco, California, USA

Really is a breaker of styles, although I might lean toward calling it an American brown ale. Nice head one a dark brown body. The flavor is complex and malty with all kinds of stuff going on. There wood and caramel and pale malt and a bit of roast. The hopping is apparent and leaves a bit of a lingering bitter finish but isn't unpleasant. I discussed the beer with Crawford Moran from Dogwood while this beer was still conditioning and he said that they weren't going for a specific style but something that was complex and experimental while still being something you can sit down and drink a few pints of. I have to say he succeeded. It's interesting and a bit complex but before I realized it, my pint was empty and I was wanting more. Shag (1923), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 11, 2004 Appearance was a murky brown with a moderate head and good lacing. Aroma was of hops and fruit. Flavor was an abundance of malts and hops with some grapefruits and caramel detected. This was unlike any "brown ale" Ive had. This reminded me more of an English Pale Ale. Another winner from Dogwood! SirTom (85), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
