Pours out dark red in color, no head at all. Smell is sweet, hoppy, rich, and full of candy. Taste is sweet, not very hoppy, and just smooth and long lasting. Awesome barley wine, no idea why this brewery was shit canned, they made some great stuff, and this is a classic example of their great beers. Thanks Matt for the opportunity on this beer. Very sweet candy, butterscotch nose. Alcohol sneaks in. Candied orange peel, cantaloupe. Enough hops to balance. Medium body; a littlle carb. nolankowal (854), Columbus, Ohio, USA

A hard pour reveals a solid dark caramel color with a yellowish light tan head. Huge aroma of dates, rasins, cherry, sweet malt and alcohol. Flavor is also very sweet, caramel malt with fruity alchohol elements and a light boozy bitterness torwards the back. Slick and thick over the tounge...also sugary and a bit sticky with a bittersweet...somewhat dry finish. Good mouthfeel though, never too clumpy or thin and a pleasan amount of carbonation. Was certianly happy to get a hold of a few of these. shadey (1501), Rochester, New York, USA

Murky with only wisps of head. Aroma is very attractive. Big sweet malt, fruit and alcohol. Flavor is well blended with a bit of a bite in the JoeMcPhee (5025), Jackson Heights, New York, USA

Sweet malty aroma, strong minty aroma, sweet malts, cherry, blackberry, prune aromas. Quite estery but also has lots of maltiness. Really fruity flavour with some minty/spicy hops. Peppery alcohol. Well developed malts, cherry and orange flavour. Soft resinousness and light plumminess. Lingering sweetness. I really enjoyed this one. Oakes (8115), Kowloon, Hong Kong
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 27, 2006 Slightly reddish-amber colour. Sugary, slightly fruity aroma with fresh tangerines and sultanas. Chewy, pale malt flavour is rounded and slightly oxidized, but fairly straightforward. Yeah, some fruits, lots of sweet pale malt stuff, and some late nasal-clearing alcohol but it’s all been done before. Still too young, IMO. jimmack (1221), Nutley, New Jersey, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 24, 2006 Bottle thanks to Lou18. I’ve had a bottle sitting in my basement begging for me to open it, but thanks to Lou I can sit on it a little longer. Hazy dark amber color with a small beige head. Nice aroma of caramel malts, dried dark fruits and a bit of citrus. Flavor is raisins, caramel, molasses with a light hop bitterness on the finish. A bit oxidized, but in a good way.
