Too sweet. Lots of sugary malts. Not bittering what-so-ever. The imbalance made it boozy and too straightforward. I’m a big fan of barleywine and I found this one was either too old or just didn’t sit well with me. Fortunate to try it. willblake (2186), Belcamp, Maryland, USA

Aroma of bubblegum. Lots of booze despite age, brown sugar has held up without getting tired or cardboardy. So soft on the body. Big, big, big. So fruity, candied fruits. It’s such a monsterous and yet balanced brew. So sad about this brewery. hopscotch (5511), Vero Beach, Florida, USA

Clear, burnt orange ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Caramel, dark fruits, pineapple, alcohol and brown sugar in the flavor and the nose. Full-bodied and creamy with medium carbonation. Lengthy, malty-sweet, alcoholic-drying finish. Big brew! ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 15, 2005 No head to be found on a bopper and orange body. Smell is full of caramel, very sweet scent overall, with banana yeast esters and some maple and caramel. Slightly thin body with s somewhat harsh palate, best described as a scorching scotch and wood flavor. Stinging at times, but still a very decent barley wine, and unique I would say. jerc (3947), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

(3+) Sweet caramel fruity notes and light alcohol in the aroma (7+) Lightly alcoholic astringency offsets the sweet caramel malt middle in the flavour. Finishes drier than the middle. A bit hot, but nice. (7+) Average palate is ok, but a bit thinner than the beer warrants. 7+/3+/7+/3/15 - 3.5
<P>July 2005. RBSG 2005. Orange amber body, tiny off white head. Incredibly boozy sweet aroma is my first impression. Alcohol carries over to the flavour, some malt makes an appearance before a dry alcoholic finish. Fairly smooth but average palate. 7/3/6/4/14 - 3.4 MrRomero (1934), Nolanville, Texas, USA
