Commercial Description:
Dogwood Pilsner is what a real pilsner should taste like. We use only German malted barley, a German lager yeast and dry hop it with whole leaf Czech Saaz hops. We then condition, or lager, the beer for two months allowing the clean, crisp flavors to develop. This extended lagering is almost unheard of in todays bewing industry. We then allow the beer to naturally carbonate. It truly is a remarkable beer.

Rerate 7/17/03: I don't know what the hell I got on tap the first time around, but this doesn't is not what I had last year. The odd lemony flavor is gone, the traditional pilsner hop aroma has regained its assertiveness and the chracteristic sandy malt character of the style is strong in the body. This is a damn tasty pilsner. I'd put it up there with some of the better ones like Victory's Prima Pils. It improves on Tupper's Hop Pocket Pils by making the hoppy pils without going overboard into unbalanced bitter harshness. It does seem to like the sveltness of some of the more traditional examples, but this is not a bad beer by any stretch.
8/25/02: Clear pale gold, perhaps a slight bit redder than most pilsners. Nice sized fluffy wet head. Saaz hops aren't really as assertive as in most pilsners. Odd lemony flavor. Not very dry. Mouthfeel is slightly slick.

Not a bad domestic pils, but maybe a little overbalanced to the hops in the finish; not to quibble, though. This is a very drinkable beer.

12 oz bottle, goblet, 48 degrees. Deep yellow body, with a hint of orange has a foamy, white head which mostly fades away quickly but ends up leaving some decent lacing. Big spicey, flowery saaz boquet; light bread and grain malt. A mouth full of spicey hops is backed by efficient malts. Lightly sweet, moderately bitter flavor quickly shits to a heavily bitter finish that lasts quite well. Light-medium body is watery with a late drying effect and lively carbonation. The bottom line is: this is a solid, tasty, clean, and refreshing pils; another winner from Dogwood.

This is a pilsner? Yellow appearance with a nice head. Flavor is citrus with a hop bitterness. Very aggresive for the style, but that's a good thing. Similar to an APA and much more ass kicking power than its wimpy pilsner cousins. POW!

Pours out with a pale golden yellow body that is a bit too hazy for a Pilsner. The head was smaller than anticipated and dissipated quickly. The carbonation was medium to low but was helped along by the Pilsner glass I poured it in. Smell was very hoppy with a characteristic whiff of sulfurous and sweet Saaz hops that is spot on for the style. Taste leans quite a bit on the hoppy side. Malts are nicely in the background with mild hints of caramel and honey like sweetness and lemony tart acidity. Mouthfeel is medium and does not feel dumbed down like the mass produced European beers. The aftertaste is a bit harsh but goes well with the raw, down to earth character of this beer. Nicely drinkable local pilsner that would be a great start for a macro convert before moving on to more adventurous stuff.

poured a nice clean orange color not what I was expecting from a Pilsner. Good clean easily drinkable beer. This is a true session beer. The hops are nicely placed but not overstated. An excellent rendition of the style IMHO.

A orange gold color , darker than most American Pils, with a small white head. Sazz aroma, light warm bread. Nice hop taste for a pils. A definite buy for the southeast.

hazy golden orange. aroma of freah oranges and limes with honey, earth and bready malt. more fresh fruit in the flavour with fermenting dought and tart fruit. finish is pithy and bitter. maybe not a traditional pils, but a pretty tasty lager
